And seriously, here's another thing: Harvey and the pitch count. The guy clearly didn't have his stuff going, so leave him in to throw some more? Did we have no one else available? Terry, please...go away.

A seemingly easy move to make for the Mets would be to promote Matt Reynolds. He can play short stop, Flores bumps over to 3rd. You then have a young infield that is significantly better defensively than what we've been fielding.

Haha, you know I agree with you there. I guess the Super 2 deadline is around June 20th. Maybe then, some decisions will be made.

Gee to be DFA'd....

NEW YORK (6/15)-- The New York Mets plan to designate right-hander Dillon Gee for assignment, a source told ESPN.com.

Gee allowed a career-high-matching eight runs in 3 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves in a spot start. That lifted his season ERA to 5.90.
While Gee spent time on the disabled list with a mild groin strain last month, rookie Noah Syndergaard was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas and took hold of the rotation spot.

The Mets initially contemplated a six-man rotation upon Gee's return, but quickly abandoned the concept. Gee did get a spot start on Sunday with the Mets looking to give their regular five starters extra rest, but flopped. He primarily would have been assigned to the bullpen.

Gee is earning $5.3 million this season and has one more year of arbitration eligibility before free agency. The DFA process gives the Mets a week to find a trade partner before having to put Gee on waivers for the purpose of sending him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Reliever Akeel Morris was promoted from Class A St. Lucie to take a bullpen role, at least for the short term.

The Mets still plan to use a spot starter on occasion to give their five rotation members extra rest and to conserve their innings. Left-hander Steven Matz, whose 2.30 ERA ranks second in the Pacific Coast League, now becomes the primary candidate for those assignments.

NEW YORK (6/15)-- Outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas by the New York Mets.

i
The Mets had claimed Nieuwenhuis off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels last week for Triple-A outfield depth. He began the season with the Mets before being designated for assignment and then traded to the Angels for cash. Nieuwenhuis needed to pass through waivers to be sent to the minors because he is out of options.

He is a combined 6-for-60 between the Mets and Angels this season.

Update on the Capt.

NEW YORK (6/15)-- Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says David Wright's return may be around the All-Star break in roughly a month.

"Realistically, I'm looking at probably the All-Star break as a realistic possibility," Alderson told reporters at the Brooklyn VA Hospital, according to NJ.com.

Wright landed on the disabled list a week into the season with a hamstring strain. He developed significant back discomfort while rehabbing and was diagnosed with lower back stenosis -- a narrower than typical spinal cavity, which puts pressure on a nerve.

He is doing physical therapy in Los Angeles under the guidance of Dr. Robert Watkins.

Alderson reportedly suggested that rookie Noah Syndergaard could end up in the bullpen late in the season to limit his innings pitched, although that is not a consideration as of now. Also, second baseman Daniel Murphy is expected to return from the disabled list Saturday when he is first eligible. Murphy landed on the DL with a left quadriceps strain.

TORONTO (6/17)-- Daniel Murphy's return from the disabled list will not occur Saturday when he is first eligible, but should happen soon thereafter.

General manager Sandy Alderson said the Mets are now eyeing Tuesday's series opener at Milwaukee for Murphy's return.

Murphy currently is playing in extended spring training games at the New York Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie as he works back from a strained left quadriceps. Alderson expects Murphy will play rehab games at the Double-A or Triple-A level before being activated.

Given Dilson Herrera's recent production, Murphy is expected to man third base upon activation.
