The Bad Guy
Since it is the topic dejour and we are irresponsible fans, we talk about coaching hires even though there is not an opening and we are far from out of the divisional race. So here is a possible place we can irresponsibly go to throw out names that we would like to see here or just talk about the next head coach at Nebraska. Plus, if some Oregon fan can irresponsibly come on here spouting "done deals" on our next head coach and then run off saying "I've said too much" as if her is some covert spy and this is Mission Impossible and the tape will explode in 10 seconds, then why can't we be just as irresponsible?
Here is my list of names (in no particular order):
David Shaw- obvious reasons all the way around but this is a pipe dream.
Bobby Petrino, 52 years old- obvious winning track record but not sure Lincoln is flashy enough for his ego and not sure the religious freak blue hairs would take kindly to his transgressions.
James Franklin, 41- he will be on everyone's list. Young firey head coach that I think would succeed anywhere. Plus he says that one of his criteria in hiring assistant coaches is that they have hot wives so the eye candy wouldn't hurt.
Bronco Mendenhall, 47- 80-31 as a head coach. 2 conference titles. Teams seem to always play good tough disciplined football.
Al Golden, 44- 47-45 as a head coach but that was as he was building terrible Temple. Obvious connection to Eichorst. With the NCAA sanctions not being as heavy as once thought at Miami I doubt he is going anywhere. Also according to my buddy in Miami, they LOVE him and the boosters will pay up to keep him.
Greg Schiano, 47- 68-67 as a head coach but like Golden, that was while building an awful Rutgers team. The NFL a isn't for everyone. Quality college head coach.
Paul Rhoads, 46- 25-33 as a head coach. No one wins consistently at Iowa St but he has his team playing hard every single game and they are prepared every week. Don't see him leaving Ames unless he is fired.
Mark Hudspeth, 45- 89-31 as a head coach. 2 conference titles. Has Lafayette give someone a scare every year it seems.
Pete Lembo, 43- 101-46 as a head coach. 2 conference titles. Ball St struggled after Hoke left but Lembo has built them back up pretty well and are a fun team to watch.
Tim DeRuyter, 50- 15-4 as a head coach. Has picked up quite nicely for the GREAT Pat Hill at Fresno St. Had some really good defenses at A&M.
Mario Cristobal, 43- 27-47 as a head coach for a terrible Florida International program. Built them up to win a conference title. Got absolutely screwed out of that job because the AD at FIU is am idiot. He is currently the OL coach at Alabama so that isn't terrible.
Dave Doeren, 42- 26-8 as a head coach. Played exciting football at NIU. In his first year at NC St so doubt he is leaving right away.
Rod Carey, 42- 7-1 as a head coach. Just took over for Doeren at NIU so not sure he is completely ready but think he is an up and comer.
Beau Baldwin, 41- 54-22 as a head coach. 2 conference titles and a national title in 1-AA. They play some exciting football at Eastern Washington.
Willie Fritz, 53- 128-56 as a head coach. 3 conference titles and 2 JC national titles. Sam Houston St plays tough football and is always in the hunt in 1-AA.
Bobby Wilder, 49- 38-10 as a head coach. Old Dominion restarted their program in 2009 and it didn't take Wilder long to make them a contender. ODU will be a 1-A team next year already.
I have now said too much!!!! I must go now.
