Going to be another grinder game, Iowugh has pulled together a pretty solid defense this year

So, if Armstrong is healthy (er), who should start? Him or Kellogg?

Should be no question, RK starts and plays all game. He is the beat QB on roster, at this point.

The most mature anyway.

I still think TA has more to defend, but he's too young.

TA, if healthy, should start. He is at least a threat to run on the read options. If RK starts they should line up in the I formation all day.

Remember back after Tommy started his first game and all of us were on here declaring that Tommy should have been the starter all along?

Shows how much we know....

We sit here and bash the coaching staff as if we know what's going on in practice better than they do. Tommy was in no way ready to be a starting QB.

True, but going into next season it will be nice having a young QB who has game experience.

Oh I absolutely agree.......that is going to be nice.

But I am about the here and the now.....

I want to win now, and if it takes starting Jeremiah Sirles at QB then that's what I want to do. I don't have the patience to just build for another year. I want to beat Iowa and then win our bowl game, and that is all I care about right now en sech.

I'll help you guys out a little.

Iowa's strengths

Jake Rudock is a great freshman quarterback IMO. He is very smart with his mobility. He is not a scrambling QB, but if you give him some running room, he will make the defense pay. If he passes smart, he is very accurate. Has a huge TE target in Fedorowicz.

Deep in RB. Weisman is the bulldozer. Bullock is great at catching but when he gets the handoff, he dances too much. Canzeri is either super good or super bad. Iowa's running can be amazing or flop.

Iowa has strong LB corps. I saw someone mention Morris, but Kirksey is just as much of a stud IMO. They are great vs screen, quick, or short passes. If they blitz, they do pressure or sack the QB.

Iowa's weaknesses

Jake Rudock is a freshman. He is smart but throws freshman passes a lot. Iowa's WRs are not very good. I expect at least 1 interception.

DBs are awful. If the WRs can get out of the LB coverage (deep), then Nebraska can get big plays. DL is still developing and are just okay. Good at stopping the run, but not pass rushing. If the LBs don't get to the QB quick enough, I can see Nebraska beating Iowa deep. That is how MSU was able to do so good.

Special teams are awful. Might as well run a fake punt against Iowa. I don't think Iowa's K is all that accurate. He's missed, what should be, some very easy kicks.

3 huge concerns in this game.

1. Weisman - we are still not that great at stopping the big barreling runners. Look at the last 2 games with Langford and Zwinak.

2. TEs, (Fiedorowicz in particular) we just suck at covering them.

3. Bootlegs - again looked terrible covering those against PSU.

What kind of pass plays does Nebraska like to run?

If Nebraska takes care of the ball I like them to win by 10

IMO, if Nebraska can pass deep, they can beat Iowa. If those WRs can get out of LB range, they can put Iowa in trouble, which will open draw plays and QB keepers for 5-8 yards.

Nebraska can literally run the ball right down anyone's throat. They did it against every team they played this year including Michigan State and Penn State......it wasn't a problem at all.

Abdullah has ran for over 100 yards with ease against every team we've faced this season.....except for UCLA, where he had 98.

I would honestly bet we don't throw the ball down field at all.

When Kellogg is in the game we like to stick to intermediate passes towards the sideline.

When Armstrong is in the game, for whatever reason, Beck likes to throw the ball up for grabs down field.......and to be honest he's just too young to be making those throws.

I'm excited to seeing some Abdullah-Morris or Abdullah-Kirksey collisions. I think Abdullah will be good, but I don't think he will be enough to beat Iowa. I think Phil Parker (Iowa's DC) will struggle to find a way to really stop him in the 1st half, but will find a way to shut him down unless Nebraska gets the pass game going.

Look at his HS film. I pointed out earlier in the year that he got too much air under the ball. He must have has speedy rcvrs that could just outrun the coverage. He can throw it 60 yds, but they are floaters.

I was hoping he'd get that fixed now that he's in college, but it looks like it needs a lot of work in the off-season.

Yeah, I would be terrified if it came down to Iowa stopping a hail mary on the final play. I would hope Parker sends all LBs at the QB, hoping they reach him in time.
