I hate the automatic ejection rule, I understand protecting the players but why cant it be the penalty and if it is a bad enough hit then can review to see if malicious enough for ejection.

They do review the hit and can over turn the ejection but not the penalty.

Made a similar call on Jean Baptiste last week. It's because he's lowering his head and hitting with the crown of the helmet.

That and the "defenseless player" schtick.

It's what got Kenny Bell last year, Baptiste, et al

They are flagging players for hitting someone who is not looking 'directly' at them. They can't see the hit coming.

I guess they want you to stop and yell at them to get their attention first.

A lot of the calls I've seen aren't "crown" of the helmet though and that's what the rule specifies.

Crown is the tip.

The ref always says "Targeting a Defenseless Player"

I know. I am saying it shouldn't be automatic ejection because doing it that way, it is less likely to be overturned than if they just throw the flag and then if think malicious can review then. Maybe wouldn't make as many mistakes then?
