Tallglass- where are you in SoCal? I am in South Pasadena, soon to be moving to a town near Modesto. Been here 27 years. Both kids born here, and graduating from college in SoCal (UCLA and SLO). I have adapted, and worn Giants' gear to Dodger Stadium, though only a hat or shirt so as not to be too obnoxious or too much a target. Have lots of friends who are Dodger fans, but most of those I know are baseball fans first, and Dodger fans second. It has been great being so close to Dodger Stadium, we can get there in about 15 minutes, and home in about 15 minutes. There are some wonderful Giant fans in exile here, sounds like you discovered some of them.

Giants fan now living in Los Angeles. Post regularly on the Niner board, but mostly lurk over here.

My family is all from SF and I grew up near Lake Tahoe. I'm a huge Niner/Giants fan. Born into it. My great grandfather, Frank Lucia, was pretty big in the city back in his day. He grew up playing in a sandlot league with the DiMaggio's. And his wife was best friends with Joe DiMaggio's sister. He was drafted by the Royals, but turned it down because his mother said he wouldn't make enough money. Later on he actually started baseball for teens in the city. Not little league, but some sort of teen league. But he kept playing semi pro ball (at Seal Stadium) and at 41 years old he actually batted .751. He did a lot for the community and youth baseball and when he died in the 80's they actually closed down city hall for the day and the funeral procession was nearly 1000 cars long. My father ended up being a prospect out of high school (pitcher and 3rd base) but stopped playing because of opening a restaurant with my aunt. So when I was young he was really throwing me heat, but I got pretty good myself, only to stop playing because I loved football and focused on that. I am not trying to brag or anything about my family... just stating my SF and baseball roots. And I'd be a liar if I didn't say I am also very proud of my family.

It is tough to live down in Southern California because all the Dodger/Angel love. Not sure I will ever get over that game 6..... I still wish bad things on the rally monkey. But the best thing was that I got to celebrate the World Series win with a couple strangers (Giants fans) in front of a bar packed with Dodger fans. Would have been much better full of Giants fans, but very sweet still. I go to many Dodgers games and always root for the other team, regardless who it is. I have my, "Go Other Team" shirt that I made, and so far I haven't been attacked for wearing it. A lot of threats, but nothing more. I also don't sit in the left field section anymore .... terrible terrible place to watch a game. It was also fun to live the McCourt ordeal down here.

I don't get to follow the Giants as closely as I would like being down here, so I appreciate all the knowledge you guys are dropping on the boards. Especially with the prospects.

Tahoe shoutout! :tb: Very interesting story, and good to see we have good Giants fans in SoCal

I am in Sherman Oaks. Been here for about 6 years. I have met a few really good Giants fans down here and I have to check out a SF Sports bar that a guy I know goes to. Brian Wilson and the show that followed the team last year, has converted a few of my friends into Giants fans. Not their favorite team, but the team the go for aside from their favorites.

Thanks guys for the good words.

sf giants r the best... are you from Tahoe??

Did your family go to school in the City? My dad was born in the Hunter's Point area and played a lot of ball in the City (a little after your grandfather). He played with Jim Gentile and a few others not nearly as famous as DiMaggio. Apparently Gentile was a pretty good hitter when they played, at least good enough to convince my dad that he (my dad) didn't have a future as a Major League pitcher. I don't know if my dad played much organized ball while attending St. Vincent's in Marin County back in the 40's (not even sure if other schools would play them).

Been a Giants fan ever since my mom! took me and my older sisters to Candlestick Park. Didn't have much disposable income growing up, so we went to all the family friendly giveaway games. General admission in left field and family pavilion were our main hangouts.

Born and raised in the city, there wasn't a choice who my teams were. Been to enemy territory at dodger stadium. Dodger dogs are nothing special- I'll put a sheboygan brat against them anyday.

As we got older and the promise of a new park was on the horizon, we invested and got season seats at PacBell (we have a brick in the palm trees too, tzill!)

It's been a great transition from the cold days at the stick. Still good to reminiscing when we go to niner games but will be glad to upgrade to the new stadium.

2010 was amazing and can't wait for another parade down market

I know, it's weird....SI is a BOY'S SCHOOL!

My brothers went to Riordan and Lick. My Sister went to University. Four kids, four HS. None of us ended up at Balboa, thank G-d. I was the only one to get into Lowell.

My dad went to Riordan. Mom went to Mercy, of course... as any good Irish Catholic girl would. I would've gone to SI, if the fam would've stayed in Burlingame.

Walter was class of '73 and we were in many classes together.

That's great! He is just as loud as ever, and still married to his high school sweetheart. Never misses a Giants' game, either. You guys have a reunion coming up next year.
