Also earlier in the week it was reported that Duke Tobin declined an interview for a GM position on another team. That makes me think he's making a lot of money and wielding a lot of power in the organization.

Sadly, I think this year would be a bad time to dump Marvin. With all the free agents hitting the market, I just don't see this team being as competitive as they have been. They are going to have multiple holes to fill no matter what they do. So any decline would be put on a new coach. I think this team needs a new attitude at the top to do anything in the playoffs, but making a change now would be cutting the knees out from under the new guy.

Of course, if they promote Marvin to GM instead of fireing him, that would be different.

At the end of the day, none of this matters. Marvin is not going anywhere. We will lose half a dozen good players to free agency, and need to replace both offensive and defensive coordinators.

Next year is already looking to be a rough one.

I see your point, but at the same time I don't think they should worry about what the fan/media perception of the new coach will be if it's a down year. It's obvious this organization is loyal (to a fault) so the new coach will likely get a few seasons to prove his worth.

After that implosion they have to look into moving on without Lewis. It's just time. The Gunther reports intrigue me. The Mort/Schefter/Glazer/LaCanfora type reporters are always doing someone's biding. Perhaps it's Gunther's agent trying to drum up buzz for his client. Who knows? There's also a good chance that report came directly from inside the Bengals organization

after the Klingler/Akili years and the Kitna/Blake years making the playoffs is considered a rousing success. That's the thing though, we are struggling to make the playoffs, other teams are STRIVING to win championships. it's a different mindset.
