Well you started with the condescending attitude. The defense and Walter Payton were responsible for that SB, and he could run behind nobodies, which he did for years.
My point was basically what woods said, you cant really compare the two eras based on Oline, the Oline we have now, i dont cringe every time they line up. My heart doesn't hurt from constant false starts, holding penalties, and having a guy in our QBs face before he can drop into a 3 step drop. Seriously dude, for the last 8 to 10 years i have been petrified watching the offense. Until last year. They not only addressed the
Oline first and foremost, they continue to tweek it.
No GM/HC combo can fix everything in one year.
I like this statement, buuuuuuut you have to add in the other parts as well:
Jim McMahon`s leadership. He was cocky and brash,I gotta admit, but he was a damn good leader when he was on the field.Remember the thursday night game vs. the Vikings when he came off the bench and threw two tds on two passes?(with an oustanding block from #34).
The game was looking ugly before he stepped in.
He`d defy Ditka`s orders all the time.didn`t care.He was a main cog to that offense too.
Gault, you needed 6 pts, heave it up.he was a former Olympic runner that was very close to be untouchable......
McKinnon...a great compliment to Gault.
Same as moorehead......
Suhey,was Payton`s compliment.
And if you think about it,the same team the following season in 86 went 14-2 with the better performance from the defense and bowed out in the first round vs.Washington.
why?.............No Mcmahon. We had Flutie in there cause JM was hurt......And i still say if #9 was in there,it very well could have been a different story.
As I said,I agree with your statement above, but I also gotta give kudos to the other role players. It was definetley a whole team that helped win the SB.
