Agreed with most all of you. The problem is definitely within the fundamentals of the defense and to me... that's a pure coaching and recruiting issue. The real thing people aren't talking about is our crappy recruiting classes in 2009-2010... look at our front seven 2-deep:

DE: Jason Ankrah (Sr.), (Greg McMullen (RFr)
DT: Thad Randle (Sr.), Kevin Maurice/Maliek Collins (Fr)
DT: Vincent Valentine (RFr), Aaron Curry (So.)
DE: Avery Moss (RFr), Randy Gregory (So.)

WILL: Zaire Anderson (Jr.), Nate Gerry (Fr.)
MIKE: David Santos (So) -or- Josh Banderas (Fr.), Michael Rose (RFr)
BUCK: Nate Gerry (Fr.), Jared Afalava (RFr.)

How is this okay? You have 8 freshman, 3 sophomores, 1 junior, and 2 seniors on the front seven... And two of the older guys (Anderson and Gregory) are JUCO transfers from the last two classes. That means only Thad Randle (one legged wonder) and Jason Ankrah are getting significant minutes from the 2009/2010 classes! If we know anything about Bo's system it's that it takes time to learn. What happened to these players:

2009 - Jason Ankrah (DE), Cole Pensick (DT... now the starting Center), Thad Randle (one legged wonder)
2010 - Walker Ashburn (DE - retired from FB), Jake Cotton (DE - OG), Tobi Okuyemi (DE-DT), Donovan Vestal (DE), Jay Guy (DT), Chase Rome (DT - transfer to Memphis)

These are where the problems were. We took only one DT in 2009 and he has one leg. And we have gotten ZERO production out of our 2010 class. Zero. We should have at least ONE junior on that DL, one Junior guy that was able to develop into something. Instead we have three players that have never played a meaningful snap, one that transfered out, one that moved to OL and another that is third on the depth chart behind a So and RFr. That's the issue with this defense right now. It comes back to recruiting. If just one of those guys had panned out our defense would look a LOT different.

Stop with the nonsense. :L

These are long term trends. They were there with the most veteran of hyped Pelini defenses. "Failed to execute", "Lack of effort", Back to basics", "Missed assignments". It's in every presser after poor performance.
Now he wants to add youth and inexperience to the list.

It's time quit throwing players under the bus (for any reason) by Bo and his nut hugger apologists.

Peat dealt a pretty swift blow. Getting snubbed by at least 10-12 jcdt's who would've played immediately also not very helpful. It's like we're the last resort for Dlineman now.
That same trend bit us at LB, DB is next in line

Another reasons we should thank cally for leaving bo a cupboard full of talent

Bo thought that since the 07 defense was bad that everyone sucked which wasn't the case there was talent that needed a new coach regime and direction. Now since here turned that team into a beast like he did the 02 to 03 team he was feeling himself and got super cocky. Now we see it wasn't a magical touch he got lucky with talent and since he refuses to recruit hard and rather complain about the recurring theories of today we have suffered. 08-'10 was his best years bc he had cally left overs and suh. That magic touch he thinks he has to coach up is bs and it's showing now

All more reason why we need a new coach and new direction bo top out alreay he can't get over the 9-4 hump he won't recruit hard and get out coached by everyone. His stubbornness is stupid your not Saban urban shaw or even an avg coach. His wins are flawed with this age of no strength of schedule your good for 7 wins easily so 9 isn't saying much ESP when we could have lost a lot last year if not for some luck and great plays

For a complicate system that he run he should be recruiting like a mad man but he doesn't bc scrubs can't run this defense it takes a full year to learn and another year of playing time to get used to it so that already 2 years of redshirting and playing .

Either get the coaches that can coach up your system or get the 4-5 star elite to run it but he won't so hopefully bo gets fired bc this stupid cycle isn't gonna stop and Oz isn't here to save his ass

yes we really needed Peat to pan out, but he would have only been a RSo this year anyway. The JUCO guys we've missed on is huge. Hopefully we'll get Claude Pelon, because that kid is legit. But missing on Toby Johnson, Lavon Hooks, Quincy Russell, Ben Bradley etc. really hurt. Missed out on Abu Lamin this year as well. I like Claude, he will be visiting for the Northwestern game, hopefully that turns the tides.

I'm not getting my hopes up anymore for DT's, regarding Pelon, Warshington is trending upwards whereas the unrest of our fanbase right now with the coaching staff let alone the status of our defense is a nightmare for recruiting. Having him on a visit gives us a chance at least. I like Kaz as a coach yet I can't understand why he's not had any success with our guys.

You have to remember that this is only Kaz's second year with us and he had a pretty bare cupboard coming into this season. Give this DL a bit more time this season and I think you'll see some Kaz come out.

He's had a great run at the Iowa, given better supplies I would hope he can achieve the same here and then some too.

So mike stoops who used to be at Arizona now at OU used to run 2 gap but switch it up when he got to OU. Robert smith on espn NCAA Fb live was making fun of the two gap saying"when your two gaping your really no gapping " and demonstrated a motion of a lineman patty cake dancing hahaha

Just saw that right ha me rolling then I stop if mike stoops can see the light and change is defensive theories and technique why can't bo?
