If we're going to expand, why not do top 6-8 straight up?

Yes but if who you play doesn’t matter who cares. It’s all about being undefeated. Line up 3 FCS teams and on shit G5 and take your shots in conference.

Solid point.

Play by actual rules that compel stronger scheduling. The top G5 team doesn't always go undefeated.

Guaranteeing a playoff spot to an undefeated G5 team regardless of who they play does the exact opposite of compelling stronger scheduling.

Top 8 or AQ format, I think most every schedule allows teams to control their destiny. I favor my rules idea over a committee and based on its results, 95% of all schedules get you into the top 8 if undefeated. That said, the incentive to schedule better is a larger margin of error. You don't want a schedule where just one loss eliminates you. Beyond that, I think G5 teams will get better if they get to compete under a format where they control their destiny compared to all formats used to date where they had no chance.

Quit calling it a playoff. It's an invitational. They have demonstrated they can invite whoever they please.

Just make it an ACC-SEC Challenge.
