I see Jaybo as at best, the 5th best dman on the flyers. Mesz, coburn, grossmann, and timo are all better than him. Why pay 6.5 mil for a 3rd pairing guy?
JAy had 4 35+ seasons 3 at 29pts, he logs tons of minutes & besides having a terrible =/- his rookie and last season has been pretty consistently even. He is prob a 4/5 here but that's because the guys we have are good. In FLa he had 4 straight dominant seasons and was one of the better d-men in the league for all around play. Then he signed the big contract and went to CAL and well like most players who go there his play went to shit(sorry DASH). He's also one of the leagues best iron men playing every game for the past 6 seasons. He has the talent to be a 2/3 I believe but he really hasn't ever been part of a team like we have.
I'm not trying to convince people we should get him at all cost, but if we're unsure how MEZ and Timmo will be this season and he can be had for cheap while we have tons of cap space and only 2 years on his deal I don't see the down side. He's leaps and bounds better then Lilja, Gusty, MAB(who I love btw), Gervais, Syvret and Walker. In fact we may even be able to ship Walker & Shelly to CAL(or at least 1 of them) in the deal to lighten the cap hit some. As I said before it all comes down to his cost for a conditional 2nd and one or both of the above mentioned guys(or any of our other "depth d-men") I'd do it in a second because I think it helps shore up our back-end this year and doesn't force management to feel like they need to make a huge splash at the deadline to win a cup.
I would like to see the Flyers be patient this year and build through next years FA unless they can get Ryan for a reasonable price(I think Weber will cost way too much and without a long-term deal in place it make no sense). Making a depth trade like this would make us a better team(again for the right price) regardless of the cap hit we get back because so much get's freed up next year plus the cap raise.
Just my thoughts on the subject.
