It was my mistake in believing that this was a board that considered all possibilities. It is interesting that all of those who were once touting their beliefs in SM, seem now unwilling to believe that he can deliver someone as good or better if (and that's a Hollywood sign sized IF they decide to move on from Kirk. Something that we all KNOW WON'T HAPPEN. (Minimum this year is another franchise tag)

It is interesting how "In GMSM We Trust." which so many were adhering to as little as 5 or so months ago. Has morphed into whatever it is that its morphed into comvcerning Kirk.

Quick question that perhaps you can shed light on. I just read this article. It was more than a little depressing, but Redskins Are Playing Politics; Not Football it claims that Scotty Mac is on the pro-Cousins team. That seems to be an error on the writer's part. Or am I wrong?
Clowney, Mercilus, and Watt, Pshaw that's nothing!! We have Ryan Kerrigan!:pound:

I have no defense for this. I to am guilty as charged. The only thing I can say is....I've seen the light that is the Houston Texans OLBs and it was illuminating.

I don't believe that you're wrong just that the writer takes an either/ or stance when some nuances would have served him better. Some folks here have pointed out that SM is using his public pronouncement concerning an unwillingness to overpay as a contract ploy. That's fair, however taking this GM at his word to me means that there is a very real possibility that Kirk gets franchised again. Some say that doing so means that Kirk is no longer here in 2018 and that's also fair. My problem is that's where people become unhinged. I was the very first on this board to insist that the team replace Allen as GM and hire a dedicated GM. When it happened, I don't recall anyone who was not happy about Scott. Now for whatever reasons, some here, are revealing that they really don't have faith in him.

In the end I believe that Scot has to tread a thin line between his vision and those around him who aren't quite on board. He is neither pro nor anti Cousins, just pro what serves the best interest of this football team in reaching and winning SB's. That's where I am and hope that I'm right about Scott.

Interesting. I never jumped on the In GMSM I tust bandwagon. Not that I was apathetic or didn't care. I was excited as I thought finally a real GM. I've been a Redskins fan too long though. So I held back and watched what would happen. If what you say is on point and its certainly plausible. Its also disappointing as it says, at least to me, Scotty Mac really isn't in control and there's still ploys and plots for control with the Skins FO. Sigh.............

Thanks for the dope, Sty.

there is more work to do

KC can be franchised again and if he is that will send a signal and not a good one

While you're right about the article's timeline, its' relevance dominates these boards because the topic is Quarterback. It's all supposition here of course, however some choose to debate, defend and attempt to convince others to see what the organization SHOULD do, while others debate, defend and point out what the organization has ACTUALLY done in the exact same circumstance. Neither is wrong, but it certainly is a whole lotta fun and likely has made this team board among the most active, among football team boards. ( active post-season team boards could be the exceptions)

I do believe Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady are the only QBs in the league that can do what the skins are asking of Cousins. Be elite, even if we take shortcuts and risks on offense and defense. Also make sure you get us in the playoffs! I think most of us agree that Cousins is getting to an elite status but he is not there yet. Perhaps, with better playcalling against teams with winning records and a top 15 defense, we become a consistent playoff team.
Not sure how far we away we are from being super bowl threats though

And what exactly are the Skins asking of Cousins?

I'm still onboard with SM but as I have pointed out several times the vast majority of the critical players who are responsible for this turn around were already on the team before his arrival. I understand it's only been 2 years but all we have to show from SM's work is Crowder, Scherff, Norman (who fell in his lap) and roll players like Davis. Every other key player was already here so it's unfair to give him credit. Had Kirk continued as Bad Kirk, forcing the move to Colt and the over reliance on SM acquired players, not a chance we had 2 winnng seasons.

This is why you really need to be patient & can't evaluate drafts until at least 3 years after they occur. I truly believe that players like Smith and Cravens can be stars in this league. Ditto even for Doctson - you can't write a guy off simply because of an injury in one year. The key is that the Redskins actually value draft picks & are keeping almost all of their picks. I believe that this will pay huge dividends moving forward.

I understand & share your frustration to a degree. I would just urge you to hang in there for a little while longer. However - this could all go out the window if they don't keep Cousins & go in a completely different direction. That is why I have a lot of confidence that they will sign him to a long term deal in the months ahead.

Oh I totally agree which again is why I said I'm still on board with SM. I was just making a point that crediting him for back to back seasons is no different than crediting Barry Switzer for a Super Bowl won with predominantly Jimmy Johnson's players.

Actually Shanny had a different QB, a different center, a different RT.... need I go on?
These players went through the pipeline, matured, and were ready to take the field for Gruden. Already in place were guys like Trent, Kerrigan, Garcon, Reed etc. The fact remains nearly all of the key players on this current team were not acquired by GMSM. I could supply the complete list but we all know the names.

Why must you be so stubborn old man? :)

I just listed 3 players out of an entire roster who have had any sort of meaningful impact who were acquired by SM. Yet you want to give SM full credit for the turn around without acknowledging that pretty much all of the best players on this team (Kirk, Kerrigan, Trent, Reed, Garcon, etc) were already in place before his arrival.

That my friend is being stubborn.

Also Kyshoen and you could argue Reiter who immediately started for the Browns.

Obviously we have to wait to see what we might have with injured Galette, Daniels and Marshall.

Not enough time to assess the Ari and Jones picks as total busts at this point either.

Again you are listing role players while I am talking about the players who really turned this team into playoff contenders, you know the top players on this team that I already listed who were here before SM. Those are the players most responsible for the turn around. That's kind of a no-brainer. Giving SM credit for wins accomplished by Kirk, Jason Reed etc is nonsense Dad.
