I'm with you on this, until further notice Kirk is still the starter here. Hopefully, everyone here realizes that all previous talk was pure speculation and supposition. Interesting that pages upon pages of chatter has been filled in this regard, as if there was an official decision made. This thread like other similar ones is likely in response to those who continually ask to name his possible replacement. That person, which we all know by now, will be completely dismissed possibly because the thought of the team moving on from him disturbs them at a deeply personal level.

At minimum Kirk gets franchised, the question if that happens will be who the organization brings in to prepare for 2018.

The question is, is the idea of a $24M dollar stop gap anything more than stupidity?? You stopgap a guy when you either have, or plan to draft his replacement. You tag Kirk and you are basically saying the odds are we are drafting a QB. Now I get the feeling some are hoping for this option. IM hoping the GM looks at how long this team has been looking for even a competent QB and makes the right decision for the team.

True, But if we tag Cousins, we wont be drafting a backup in the 5-7th round. We will be drafting the next "franchise" QB much much earlier.

If KC is tagged, that will be his last year here so they better be looking for his replacement this offseason. Which probably means they will have to use a high draft pick on a QB. This will have a ripple effect of filling some of the glaring holes on the defense. Not good.

For some, maybe, but not all. I don't see this happening. I'm on record saying that they will come to an agreement with KC relatively early so they can focus on planning for FA and the draft. No way do they want to go into FA not knowing who their QB is. If they do, I have to seriously question SM and the FO.

W/O making a thread on it. After watching the Texans OLBs, Clowney and Whitney Mercilus with Mercilus logging in time at ILB/MLB as well. I'm thinking RK's not starting for the Texans. And certainly wouldn't once JJ Watt comes back.

It was my mistake in believing that this was a board that considered all possibilities. It is interesting that all of those who were once touting their beliefs in SM, seem now unwilling to believe that he can deliver someone as good or better if (and that's a Hollywood sign sized IF they decide to move on from Kirk. Something that we all KNOW WON'T HAPPEN. (Minimum this year is another franchise tag)

Thing is, Kirk IS an upgrade over anything we have had in the past 25 years aside from a one year flash in the pan narcissistic. But some folks still aint happy.

That is correct, and I've said so many times before, Washington should always be in Upgrade mode, not "chasing elite's" but always looking to improve the product on the field and production from at every position. As I've also said on an occasion or two before. Great teams don't rebuild, they reload. So the way I see it is, you are correct that he absolutely is "an upgrade over anything that we've had in the last 25 years" and that means that we are finally on the right path in terms of upgrading. Kirk is the face and first of many of such upgrades to come.
