NA hire Stan van gundy

SMH,

SVG gone? Kerr gone.

Sexy picks left would be Hollins? Karl? Mike Brown? LaGruber/Myers sure look like they have yolk on their face.

Spurned by a TV analyst, and a Coach willing to go a DET team rather than come home, they really need to hit a Homerun on this pick.

Part of me feels like they will shock the world and just promote Scalabrini from Santa Cruz

5 years, 25 mil for a rookie Coach with no coaching experience at any level?

Clearly this wasn't hiring the "best XOXO's Coach" or about the "best Coach", to me it just screams lets get the "safe guy" who won't offend anyone.

I happen to think Kerr likeable guy on TV, but is he the one who's going to take us places where Jackson Couldn't? To be determined.

The Honeymoon is going to be brief. If we don't get to 50+ wins next year or hit the playoffs, someone is going to have some explaining to do , this means you LaGruber/Myers.

Here was what Jim Barnett said today on KNBR:

“Their offense can be improved, without question. Obviously there were a couple things. Communication – you’ve got to get along with the people you work for. Alright? And secondly, was the team going to get any better? Did Harrison Barnes get any better? Did Harrison Barnes regress? How much teaching was there? The big thing that I understood is that Mark Jackson really did not want a strong, strong coaching staff underneath him. And especially a lead assistant. If you don’t want strong people underneath you, there’s a problem right there.”

Really, just about all you need to know about the situation.

Barnett on Kerr:

“I think everybody did their homework on him and feels that he can do the job. For one thing, I don’t think he has an enemy in the world. So I think he’s going to be able to relate to people, to young basketball players, to the young players on this team. Of course, they have the kind of character that they’re going to play hard for anyone. I think it’s a sure thing, quite frankly. I don’t have any reservations,”

Given that Barnett knows 1000x more about the Ws and the NBA...I'm going with Barnett.

I agree with everything he said. Also the fact that he banned Barnett from practices says it all right there about mark Jackson

I'm a JB fan, he's forgotten more about basketball than most of us will ever know.

But the above description could also apply to Gary St. Jean, and I don't ever want him to be on the Dubs bench calling the shots again either. Being a nice guy doesn't mean you going to be a good NBA coach.

Here's my other concern, at what point do the Dubs players go "Andrew Bynum" and tune out Kerr? He has rings riding the wind of Jordan/Pop (Spurs), but we can all agree he isn't the motivator Jackson is.

The FO just made him the 5th highest paid Coach in the league, is he the 5th best coach in the league????

1) Doc Rivers $7 mil a year
2) Stan Van Gundy $7 mil a year
3) Popovich $6 mil a year
4) Steve Kerr $5 mil
5) Rick Carlise $4.6 mil

If you were going to spend $5 mil a year, you couldn't get a more experience Coach who has been there and done that to run things? I'm sure Jeff Van Gundy, George Karl, Mo Cheeks, or even Mike Brown would have done it.

I suppose its not my money, so why should I care right?

Barnett was banned? Not sure about that one. The rumor was West was banned though.

People are still going to complain. Kerr's salary is their next sticking point. The Mark Jackson fanboys are butt hurt that Kerr is getting paid way more than Jackson or most coaches for that matter. As if the money is coming out of their pocket. Coaches salaries aren't based on a sliding scale of merit. They are based on whatever the market is willing to bear since there is no salary cap.

Well, his salary is a function of the market when he signed. Those other coaches signed in other years. Suffice it to say there are probably 10 or so coaches under contract in the NBA making less who would have gotten more had they signed this offseason. In 3 years he won't be top ten much less top 5
