How do you figure?...top 5 defense this year...

This year the offense was the primary culprit in why they didn't do better (along with badly timed injuries of course)...

This.

A healthy Bogut, FE, AI#9 all year, and maybe this team is a top 4 seed next year. But injuries are a factor, just ask CHI.

SVG hasn't coached in how many years? I'm not saying SVG wouldn't do well in his next job, but it isn't as easy as changing a light bulb. How well did B. Shaw do in DEN after taking over for the Coach of the Year Karl? Aside from alienating his veteran PG, and dealing with injuries to Javal Mcgee, and losing AI#9 to us  DEN went from a 57 win season to a 36 win season, where is the outrage to fire Shaw?

I have serious doubts that Stan van would take the job that his buddy was just fired from. I also have the greatest of hopes that the Warriors have their sights and their pocketbooks aiming higher than this guy, who is apparently more full of himself than Jackson.

If Lacob is willing to splash the cash, the Dubs are as sexy of a proposition for a top head coach as they have ever been.

The team has gone as far as it can go with Jackson. This team has too much talent to be rudderless at the end of games and lost too many games because of Jackson's ineptitude as a strategist.

You can't comparing bringing in Stan Van Gundy to Brian Shaw. That's ridiculous. Stan Van Gundy lead a team to the Finals and multiple playoff appearances. Before that he helped to build up the Miami Heat before Riley took over the year they won a championship. Brian Shaw was a highly regarded assistant, but had NO head coaching experience before.

SVG would be great.

Jeff Van Gundy is his buddy. I don't think Stan is anywhere as close to MJax.

What about George Karl? He didn't want to stop coaching for good, did he?

I don't think Karl and Andre #9 ended on good terms, I suppose that could always be repaired here, but if you are Karl and an established Coach of the Year , been to the Finals, would you want to work under LaGruber/Myers?

I'm guessing they hire a new "less experienced Coach" type on the cheap.

However, Stan is a defensive coach so it will be a huge change in our game.

His 2004-05 Heat had the #2 offensive rating in the league (points per possession).
05-06 Heat #6
07-08 Magic #5
08-09 Magic #8
09-10 Magic #2
10-11 Magic #10

He's no slouch on the offensive side, basically top 3rd of the league (or better) most years he coached.

In addition here were the defensive efficiency ratings(Hollinger) of those teams:

06-07 Magic - #8
07-08 Magic - #11
08-09 Magic - #1
09-10 Magic - Tied #1
10-11 Magic - #3

If that's all you got, then the only thing I'll add to that is....I've probably forgotten more about NBA hoops, than you'll ever know or even hope to learn.

Maybe you have.

What is it about Mark Jackson that's so appealing as a coach?

Sounds like SVG is interested

“I’m certainly willing to talk to, listen to, and I think from there you decide if both parties are interested in going further. It’s hard to say you’re interested until you sit down with people and I certainly have not done that with them….

“I think there are some positives with Golden State. As you say the talent level is there. Of the jobs that are open now they are clearly the most talented team out there. No. 2 you have a great, great fan base there, one of the best in the NBA . Number three, and I grew up there so I can speak to it, there aren’t many better places to live in the United States than the Bay Area in California. There are some positives and they are going to have a lot of people interested. I think it’s a matter of fit, that’s key in coaching jobs. It’s not going to work if there is not some common ground on philosophy.”

I like Van Gundy but I don't think he' the sexy pick that GS is looking for. They want to make a big splash.

SVG seems to be the best coach available so unless they are coaxing Jerry Sloan out of retirement or re-animating Red Aurbach I'm not sure who a bigger "splash" would be. I guess convincing a college coach like Hoiberg or Donovan would be news, but it's a big risk with no NBA experience. The Warriors made a big splash when they hired Mike Montgomery and that was a disaster.

Rumor has it, his contract is up, and may not be with the Dubs very much longer.

But who knows, maybe he can find us a replacement that will get along better with LaGruber
