If healthy, this could be one special defense this year.

And hiring Phillips. I know Elway, even more after this season, will do everything within his power to keep this D together. Rather see him make some sacrifices on O side of ball.

I was thinking the same thing.

I am of the mindset JDR sabotaged the team last year in the playoff game. Not putting Harris on TY Hilton was plain idiotic. Same personal this year and the defense is dominating. JDR is public enemy #1

In all fairness to him, the Colts offense was not all that dominating. I don't think Luck was all that great.

Peyton Manning shit the bed in that game.

Then again you are right. How they could not see that this teams personnel was suited to a 3-4 is mystifying. With Demarcus Ware and Von, who was projected as absolute prototypical 3-4 OLB along with Pot Roast as a potentially great NT (he did great with the Skins btw as a NT this year).

The great coaches play the players they have to their strengths. The average coaches try to bang square pegs in round holes.

To me honestly the best coaching job that JDR did here in Denver was the 2013 season when we had all those injuries. Yes we were a bottom half of the league defense but they were the type that could come up with a big play when we needed it. Trevathan especially had a very special year. JDR is much more creative when he doesn't have a ton of talent. When he has a very talented group he seems to get very lazy in his play calling just deciding his 11 will beat the other team's 11 on every play. What we saw in that AFC Championship game though is exactly why coaching is so important. We changed up coverages, blitzes, number of guys rushing, zone/man, everything. That was probably one of the top-3 game calling games I have ever seen by a coach.
