If Georgia fires Mark Richt who would they hire? I have a feeling they couldn't get a big name guy. I could see it turning out like Nebraska after firing Pelini, I think it could set their program back 3 or 4 years. The Schottenheimer hire hasn't seemed to work out, the defense seems to have regressed from last year. I can see where UGA fans want Richt gone but to me now doesn't seem like the time to do it

Georgia is probably a top 5 destination for any coach. It ranks up there with USC, Texas, Florida. That is why it is so mind blowing Richt cant seem to win there.

Georgia has everything. They would be able to get a big time coach to go there.

Willing to bet Joey Freshwater would give one of his nuts to be able to hit the Athens bar scene.

If Georgia does find a good coach that can recruit and win big ball games the rest of college football should be scared shitless

It's would be scary. The only saving grace for the rest of CFB world is they'd still have to come out of the SEC and overthrow LSU and Alabama.

For the SEC however, it would just make that conference more difficult.

Richt has a .500 or better record versus 12 of the other 13 SEC teams (only Florida)
Richt owns Georgia Tech
Richt wins bowl games with a ridiculouse winning percentage.

It is a bit wrong to say he doesnt win. He wins a ton.

A national title is an incredibly near impossible accomplishment even for blue bloods with everything.
Oklahoma, Penn State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan, and Nebraska havent won a title in the Richt era.
Heck the entire Pac-12 has won exactly 1/2 a title in the last 26 years.
It is a lifetime worth of sweat and tons of luck to get one.

If they had had the CFP from the time the BCS started I'd wager UGA WOULD have at least NC. Maybe more

But conference rivals Alabama has won 3, LSU has won 2, Florida has won 2, Auburn has won 1 in the Richt era.

He's also benefitted from the West being down for years, till Alabama regained a pulse thanks to Saban. And most importantly the East has been a shitty division for years now and they've won it once or twice in 8 years or so?

Georgia is an entirely different animal than Nebraska. Georgia is a talent rich state. I can't imagine there wouldn't be high level coaches that would at least entertain the chance to go to UGA.

I strongly disagree when you say the defense has regressed.

The defense actually played pretty well against Florida and Bama despite the scores.

In the Florida game, there was a muffed punt recoved by Florida for a TD, an int returned to the 3 yard line, and in Bama, there was a pick 6, a blocked punt and about a million other ints.

The offense has regressed big time. The defense is the reason why we might still make a bowl game.
