No, 2006 was vacated because the two top teams didn't play. Voters didn't want a rematch of Ohio St. and Michigan. Maybe if they were in the SEC it would have happened.

If Michigan hadn't lost in the last game of the season, then there might've been a rematch. I think it's a little harder to make a rematch when the games would be back to back. Also, both teams got pounded in a the bowl games, so they obviously weren't the best teams.
The difference then and the difference now is defense. UF had great defense, and Bama and LSU have great defense. Ohio st. and Michigan are in the Big 10, so they don't have good defense.
Defense is why the SEC is the king conference.
Same thing goes for Okie st. as it did for WVU and Oregon. They might put a little more points on LSU than Bama will, but their defense will give up 40+, therefore they are fucked.
