Puckett started at the age of 24. Ichiro was like 27.5 years old. Bit of a difference.

And Ichiro still managed over 10,000 plate appearances.
I know. I was just, to quote Tony Soprano, "breaking balls"

On base percentage is on base percentage. Walk, hit, HBP, accidentally make it to first, doesn't matter as long as that lead off hitter is getting on base.

But I'll take Lofton.
I always liked Ichiro as a #2 hitter over leadoff.

Couldn't tell you the difference in numbers, but it wouldn't sway me thinking that's where he should be in the order.

As a leadoff hitter, Id rather have Lofton. But Id take Ichiro between the two.

I agree ichiro's stats are more of a #2 hitter. But top of the lineup hitters have similar profiles, I would still rather have the player who gets on base more and steals more bases.

Id rather have that in a leadoff hitter for sure.

And I don't really consider Ichiro a great option as a leadoff man.

It'd depend on what you were looking for from the two players. Ichiro was a RF with an absolute cannon for an arm. Lofton was a CF, who used his speed and ability to read the ball off the bat to make the play on any ball hit his way.

Also agree with Ichiro fitting the role better as a #2 hitter, Lofton being the protypical lead off hitter.

If it were who'd you rather have as a leadoff hitter -- I'd go Lofton.

If it were who'd I'd rather have on my team -- I'd go Ichiro.

Lofton played 17 seasons, while Ichiro is on his 16th right now, yet Ichiro has played in over 300 more games.

The talk about driving themself in -- I read quite a while ago, Ichiro puts on a show in batting practice and hits bomb after bomb, but game time, he goes back to being a slap hitter, because that is what makes him great and gives him the most success utilizing his speed.

Can't remember the year, but JJ Putz wanted to bet someone a year's salary Ichiro would win the HR derby if they let him participate. Only reason this stuck in my head is -- Putz grew up in a city next to me and I got to face him a couple times over the years. (That is when I found a whole new respect for what MLB hitters do)

I would have said Ichiro easily and than I looked and compared the stats. I still say Ichiro, but I have new found respect for Kenny Lofton.

How is that the hitter who takes a walk's fault?

Did I say it was? I said I like the walks... But I want a little power as well... With that said I took Lofton

Well yeah, both would be great, but it is widely understood that OBP is more important than SLG

I voted for Ichiro because the Dodgers had Lofton already.

Maybe Ichiro can sign with the Trolley Dodgers after his current contract is up. Never lose out hope...Secret Agent Ned is STILL a part of your organization after all so I give it 50/50 shot.
