But I actually am starting to feel just the slightest bit sorry for Jay Cutler. Dude has completely sucked it up this year after signing that massive deal, and he's being chewed up and spit out all over the place. Now he got benched in favor of Clausen.....does it get worse than that? Might just be the way dudes' face is, but he honestly looks like he's gonna throw himself into traffic.

I know most won't agree with me in feeling the slightest bit sorry, but he just looks so damned pathetic.

I feel sorry in the sense that he really hasn't had the worst year ever yet it seems like all blame is being put on him and the coaching staff is using him as a scape goat. He definitely deserves some of the blame here but it seems like the coaches really threw him under the bus hoping it would save their jobs.

I believe Bears have decided Jay is done in Chicago and they don't want to damage the goods before the trade talks start IMO.

The guy has done no favors for himself. He either is incapable or unwilling to change his game at all. Gets intercepted throwing into triple coverage and says he would do it again. He also has a devil may care attitude generally. He gives nothing for his coaches or fellow players to work with.

He is a guy that really couldn't care less about playing football except he has natural talent and there is money in it.

I doubt he gets traded because he is not worth the salary hit. The best thing that could happen to him was that Shanny becomes an HC again and grabs him. Seems to be the only coach he has had much success with.

I will agree that the bears are using him as a scapegoat but he is not completely innocent.

There is a shitload of guaranteed money owed to Bitter Beer Face the next two years. I am pleased I don't have to defend him anymore.

I really did expect him to play better than he has as a Bear.

Tebow has as many playoff wins...

Not an ounce of pity from me. Cutler got exactly what he wanted. He forced a trade and went to the team he wanted to go to. He got them to sign him to a big extension. He got them to bring back his good buddy Marshall. He got them to bring in a supposed offensive guru and load up with offensive talent.

Cutler has made his bed; now he has to lie in it.

You're using the term "fans" very lightly here I hope?

We're Broncos fans here. I liked Tebow when he was with us because he was our guy. When he left I wished him well, even though I knew he was heading for that dumpster fire in New York. With that said, Tebow has his fans. They aren't necessarily Broncos fans, even though a lot of them wore Broncos jerseys for a while. They are Tebow fans. And they are much greater in number than Cutler fans. :pound:

Lets see no o line, no defense, wr's that are to slow, a coach that doesn't run the ball. I'd be throwing passes up for grabs as well. Cutler is at fault somewhat but it starts from top. Put Manning on that team and he doesn't make it through a whole season without going down. This is the same b.s. Romo had to deal with but get a running game and play better defense and look at Romo now. It's just common sense. Just saying.

Good post. And what some people don't realize is Marshall and Jeffery have been hobbled by injuries all season. The game that Marshall suffered the season ending injury a few weeks ago, he had said going into it that it was the first game all season that he felt 100%. And Jeffery has been slowed by a hamstring injury most of the season. People talk about Cutler's great weapons, but they weren't the same this season. Then you had Trestman refusing to run the ball a lot even though he has Matt Forte. The play calling was HORRENDOUS. A lot of reasons why the offense regressed. Now Cutler is not blameless. He turned the ball over too much. But when you have an offense hurt by injuries and struggling to move the ball, it's not surprising that he took more chances. He'd rather take a chance to spark the offense than go 3 and out time after time. Also noteworthy is several of Cutler's INTs were on desperation hail mary plays. So it's not quite as bad as what the turnover stat line shows. Cutler's passer rating of 89.5 is close to his career best, so the benching was very odd. Trestman was looking for a scapegoat, and threw a last second hail mary in an attempt to save his job. Obviously it didn't work, as the offense had a miserable game today against the Lions. Only 14 points and they were gift wrapped on turnovers/botched punt return by the Lions.

At least Cutler handled his benching like a MAN. Didn't complain one bit. He was friendly and talked openly with the media, and says he wants to remain in Chicago. He put in lots of extra time to help Clausen prepare for the game. Cutler isn't the same guy he was a few years ago. Having children seemed to help him mature. He's a completely different guy now.

It'll be interesting to see if they stick with Cutler and bring in Mike Shanahan, or trade Cutler and start over at QB.

Funny, look at how close the Bears game was yesterday with Clausen in there instead of Cutler. It's amazing how much better your defense looks when the quarterback isn't turning it over every other play.

The Lions played like bumbling idiots yesterday. They turned it over 3 times including a botched punt return. They also missed a short FG, and some incredibly stupid penalties. It was only the gifts the Lions gave that kept the Bears in the game. Stafford played one of his worst games of the season. The Chicago offense seriously could have scored 0 points yesterday. It was the turnovers that gave them short field. It's pretty sad when you win the turnover battle 3-1, and STILL lose 20-14 at HOME. That should not be considered encouraging. How sad is it that the offense scored only 14 points on a day that they got 3 turnovers? You have to be a moron to think the offense was better with Clausen.

The defense has looked terrible most of the season. They were down by 30 points to the Patriots before Cutler even turned the ball over, so the idea that Cutler turnovers were the reason for the bad defense is not correct. They were down by multiple scores to the Cowboys a few weeks ago before Cutler turned it over too. It was actually the Forte fumble that turned that game into a blowout. Easy to put all the blame on Cutler, but it was a team collapse by the Bears this season.

Do you just say crap and hope that either no one else watched the game, or no one can be bothered enough to actually check up on it?

Let's look at all these "short fields" the Bears got from turnovers. The first Lions turnover was an interception in the end zone that was a touchback. The second was also an interception that the Bears returned to their own 2 yard line. So those "short fields" were 80 and 98 yards. What's interesting is that the Bears offense moved the ball the Lions 45 before being forced to punt. Of course, this punt led to turnover number 3: a muffed punt that the Bears recovered at the Detroit 11. So of these 3 turnovers, only one was truly a short field.

The Bears other touchdown drive was an 80 yard drive.

Go ahead and be impressed that the Bears scored a grand total of 14 points on a day that they got 3 turnovers. The Bears offense put up 234 yards. There was no improvement in the offense under Clausen, despite the fact that he didn't throw an INT until the end. Intelligent football people will not be impressed with an offensive performance like that.

Why did you watch the game? Did you watch the game because you were hoping the offense would look better, making Cutler look bad? Talk about holding onto the PAST. Cutler has been gone from Denver for a long time, so why do you still care about him? If you're a fan of Cutler like myself, then that's different. But you're not a Cutler fan, so why do you care so much about what he does? Why constantly make negative comments about a player that left Denver many years ago? You need some positive energy in your life, my friend. God bless you...

I watched the game because I like to watch football. I love the sport and watch it every chance I get. And yes, I do hope to see Cutler fail miserably over and over again. Call me crazy, but as a passionate football fan, I find it personally insulting when someone denigrates Broncos fans. That's like calling out my family. And I have a ton of respect for Pat Bowlen, so when someone treats him like crap as Cutler did, you bet that pisses me off.

You don't know me, so don't try to pretend you do. Don't tell me I need positive energy in my life. Don't call me your friend; I'm not your friend, pal. I'm just a guy who likes to see jerks get their comeuppance, and that's exactly what's happening to Cutler and I love it. Watching Cutler fail and watching clowns like you twist and turn to try to defend him fills me with more positive energy than you could possibly imagine!:yahoo:

I don't think Broncos6482 or anybody for that matter expected a whole lot from Claussen. The guy is a career back up in the NFL if even that so the fact that they are starting him over Cutler just shows the team has completely quit on Cutler. Heck you can see it in his OL where they just have no desire to block for the guy anymore. Cutler is not a guy that a team can rally behind knowing they will have their back and lead them to victory. Cutler is the type of quarterback that when things are going well he can do alright. When things fall apart though Cutler is not a guy to speak up in the lockerroom and rally his team. So because of all that it made sense to make the switch to Claussen as there is nothing to lose at this point in the season. The team did seem to rally behind Claussen a little and played one of the more complete games especially on defense. Obviously the offense didn't put on a show but they also didn't go out and cost the team the game.

Cutler has worn out his welcome in Chicago just like he did in Denver. He will find work with another team but you have to start noticing there is a pattern in all of this. And also like Broncos6482 said Cutler's utter disrespect towards Bowlen, his teammates, and to us as fans will always have many of us cheering for him to fail in the NFL. He left Denver making sure to burn every bridge possible and I just can't respect a guy that has done that. I know you have in your head he has changed and matured since then and maybe he has, but it looks like once again he has worn out that welcome in Chicago. Nobody is rallying behind him and even teammates have spoken against him. Throw in the controversy of even his coaches speaking against him. You don't see that crap happen ever in the NFL so it should say something about Cutler.

There were plenty of other games to choose from. There were more appealing games than Lions-Bears that you could have watched, but you chose to watch the lousy Bears. That tells me that you're still obsessed with Cutler after all these years.

Pat Bowlen is a good man, but he admitted that his memory was starting to fail around the time that Cutler debacle happened. Cutler said he called Bowlen, and Bowlen admitted that he might have forgotten. I'm not excusing Cutler as he acted like a prick during that mess. But there were a lot of people that deserved blame for that mess, with McDaniels being at the top of the list. Cutler was not mature back then, but he has matured greatly in the last couple years since having children. Look at the class that he handled his benching with. The Cutler of a few years ago would not have handled a benching with class. There's a such thing as a person maturing and becoming a better person. Cutler has made great efforts to mature, so he should be forgiven for the way he acted in the past. God believes in forgiving people. Try to let go of the hate you have for Cutler. God bless...
