I know nothing about Guns... need some general advice

I would be interested in knowing what gun people would chose if they could only have one gun. I would start a new thread but I am new and can't do it yet I guess.

I would pick a Ruger mini-14 .223 Ranch Rifle. Its one of the most versatile guns out there. Short barrel to make it adequate for home defense and working in tight spaces, but also accurate enough with a scope that you could hunt.... or defend your home at distances. It just does everything. I love my Ruger mini 14.

One gun... that would depend on how important carrying is to you I guess. My choice would be a handgun since I carry 24/7. It's not ideal for all situations and is actually particularly lacking in many, but it's my constant companion. I'd probably pick the one that I have right now, the CZ P-07.

Now if we're talking about a particular situation where concealing in daily life isn't a consideration like a zombie apocalypse , you gotta go long gun. Probably an AR variant or a Remington 870 for me.

If I had to pick just one, I would go with my trusty ol 870 express. It's good for everything from home defense to the turkey shoot.

I know it sounds weak, but I've always used my little ruger SR22 for home defense. Former military, have plenty of larger firearms, but that's the one for that job for me at home. My wife has no issues holding it, carrying it, lifting it, no nervousness at all when pulling the trigger, and can get off plenty of accurate shots in a hurry with it. Plenty accurate in a room, easy to maintain, cheap to practice with often. No worry about shooting it, going around corners with it in a confined space or struggling to hear or see at night after the first shot in a dark room.

That's what I was hoping for with us, but the wife didn't like using it, wasn't handy with the sling in daytime (and would have been a very big issue at night waking up to it) which for me is a necessity for a home defense long gun, and hard to give it a safe convenient location we could get to in our room.

She was getting better with my AR and less nervous with the shotgun but the 22 she took to like a fish to water.

Dead on with the advice no matter which weapon you feel most comfortable with. Practice.

Oh yeah, agree fully... I wanted to go with a Remington 11-87 Youth. my buddy had one he was selling and we shot it all the time.

Just much easier for her to hold and effectively and accurately fire a small handgun over a shotgun and become competent in the time she has to spend shooting. And that's what I want if she's woken up in the middle of the night, something she is practiced and comfortable with using. So for us that was a very easy choice.

I've got a S&W 45c that I absolutely love and rarely fire my my Glock 19 anymore because the 45 is all I want to shoot.

So for me it would be the 45c.

Would hate to give up my Browing O/U 1200 Citori though.
