In a full keeper league meaning we keep 35 of 40 players for ever! Would anyone out there besides me that is think that giving up Brandon Marshall for Cordaralle Patterson would be a smart move. In other words does anyone see Patterson becoming a star player in the near future thus worth more than marshall for the long haul. Thoughts

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders.

1) A lot depends on the future of Leslie Frasier IMO. Cause I don't think a new regime would be as patient with Ponder/Cassel/Freeman. If Frasier stays, I think Patterson is brought along slowly. Since AP is their centerpiece.
2) Also depends on your league scoring. Patterson is an excellent special teamer.
3) Other than his rookie season, Marshall has a career season average of 1241 yards and 7.1 TD's (6 seasons). I wouldn't consider dropping a consistent guy like that for a rookie.

There is no scenario in non-restriction keeper leagues, in which Marshall for Patterson is a smart straight up deal. Marshall is a top five WR, Patterson will never be that high, IMO.

No, simple as that. Patterson's potential ceiling is high, maybe if things work out perfectly, he's a top 10 type. Marshall is already there and will stay there for at least 3 more years, maybe longer.

Patterson's floor however, is along the same lines as every other WR that flashed and than burnt out quickly, out of the league after a couple years. Marshall's floor, barring injury, is still top 15.

Patterson might be a future stud, but like the others have said, that would be a horrible move because Marshall is elite right now.

You would need to get a good RB or QB along with Patterson and you would have to have a very weak keeper core unlikely to contend in order to make a deal like this. I am thinking a player along the lines of Nick Foles.

Good ol' Foot. You really gotta get over this obsession with finding the next big thing at rookie.. especially IDP rookies. Even if Clowney is the next JJ Watt, and that's a HUGE if.. He and Patterson still aren't worth Marshall

Yea I guess you're right Treff. It's just that in our league we get 5 points per sacks and the guy who owns JJ Watt won't trade him for anything. I have been trying for two years now with no success so i am trying to find the next JJ Watt and Clowney seems like the only slim possibility out there. Even though it is not even close to a certainty Clowney will be as good if he can score like JJ it might be worth the gamble and take my chances on him stinking.

Best of luck on the rookie Draft and Clowney, in the meantime You could focus on the seven or eight defensive linemen who had more sacks than Watt, or the handful that had 1 or two less. Watt is a big name, and yes he's a very good IDP player to have, but he's not so much more special than any other above average DL that he's worth a premium like that in trade negotiations.

You really got to stop fixating on specific players like Te'o, Chris Johnson, Tavon Austin, Clowney, etc.

That is the downfall of many fantasy football players. If the value is right, sometimes you have to take a few players you don't like ahead of riskier options that you are high on. When you reach, you have to bat pretty close to 1.000 to end up with a good squad. Nobody can bat 1.000 consistently.
