even if the player has been a cancer, or just wasn't a fit

the last thing you ever want to hear is the gm of your team coming out and saying he made a bad deal just mere hours after he made it.... my god howson stick to your convictions at the very least.

He said he made a bad deal? Sheesh, you do that years down the road, even if you think it minutes down the road.

the filatov trade to ottawa he apparently admitted was bad, unless the media is skewing the contex of what he said.

either way, grow a pair buddy. the leader of an organization should at least pretend to be strong, even lowebellini knows that.

Where'd you hear that?

All I read was him "admitting a mistake" by trading him. But what he said was it was a mistake for the organization to have put so much effort into trying to rehabilitate him for so long. He said it was a mistake to try and get him here from Russia. And it was a mistake to spend so much on trying to get him back from the KHL.

I never heard anywhere he said THIS deal was a bad one. Could he have gotten more, probably. But he's going to need that 2.1 mil to take a run at Bieksa. And it's not like Filatov contributed last year. 7 assists in like 20 games from a "Stamkos level" talent?

He lost a non roster player for a draft pick. A player who was not going to play for the Jackets ever again, partially because he burned his chances and partially because he demanded a trade when he got demoted after 7 assists in 20 some games.

They were talking about it on HNIC radio.

there's no doubt you have to trade him its what's best for him and the team, so why would you ever feel the need to admit that when it was something you basically had to do? it just doesn't make sense

I'd feel a little bad for the Jackets fans, not because of Howson's words but because they keep having high picks and they never seem to develop anything out of them.

Outside of Nash they haven't ever really drafted and developed a top-end homegrown talent in the long term. Whether it be because of poor selections or a flaw in their developmental strategies, it just doesn't seem to happen.

Luckily for fans of BJs they have Johansen on the rise. IMO, not even Mike Milbury himself could fuck that kid's future up.

Milpuke wouldn't fuck him up, he'd trade him before he was given a chance to play on the team.

LOL... Too true. I wish he was back as GM of the Isles. Not that I wish that on anybody, but I just REALLY want him off of TV.

I don't want him on TV either, but if he came back to the Isles the fans would make his life a living HELL.

Besides Garth is building a very talented team. The arena vote is in August & is expected to pass. Things are looking good for the Isles.

And for some reason all of those scouts are still employed.

They seem attracted to head cases. Legien just quit, Filatov doesn't know where he wants to play, Zherdev could not care less and Voracek was streaky as hell. LeClaire vanished as fast as he rose up.

Russell, Methot, Brassard and Mason seem to be panning out. Calvert looks solid, and Golubef is pretty sharp from what I hear. Can't wait to get a look at Johansen. Have to add Klesla alongside Nash as solid dividends paid.

Looking at the draft history though, it's been ugly. The 03 draft when they picked Zherdev especially hurts. A short list of people after him (all first round):
Phaneuf
Parise
Vanek
Michalek
Kostitsen
Carter (Although they have him now)
Seabrook
Getzlaf
Kesler

How they got the only dud in a can't miss draft like that...

i really think thats an organization that would really benefit from simply being a bit more ruthless, for lack of a better word, in the front office.

they seem to simply let failure, again, for lack of a better word, slide.
