Patriots hired Mike Vrabel as head coach.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first to report the hiring, although it’s worth noting FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported on Saturday night that “barring something unforeseen,” the Patriots were expected to hire Vrabel. It’s now nearly official, as the former Titans head coach will soon put pen to paper to become the second head coach of the Patriots in the post Bill Belichick era. The Patriots blew through their interview process, and wasted little time to reach the decision to hire the coach who spent eight years as a player with the team from 2001-2008. Vrabel boasts a 54-45 record as a head coach during his six years with the Titans, and is now set to takeover for a team that appears to already have its franchise quarterback intact with Drake Maye. Couple this with nearly $130 million in cap space to play with, and there’s a suddenly a strong case to be made for the Patriots as a bounce back team next season.

The best move they could have made at this time. Vrabel will allow a level of comfort for the Kraft family because he's part of the previous success. He also has experience and knows all of the ins, outs, should, should nots and the don't even think about its.

Better, he knows most of the guys that are hitting free agency and who to stay away from. Even better, who to go after hard and sign. He'll also have a certain amount of appeal to many of the FAs and they may want to play for him.

I think that this is a win-win-win. Win for the Krafts. Win for the Fans. Most important, a win for the team.

I think they had to make this signing even if Ben Johnson was their first choice. Chance of losing Vrable while waiting weeks for Johnson to be available wasn’t worth it. And no guarantee Johnson would choose us. Better get 1 or your top 2 choices.

I’m fine with it. He’s a proven winner and Coach of the Year. Just need an exciting OC to make this offense competitive and keep building up Maye.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports Josh McDaniels is expected “to be in the mix” for the Patriots’ offensive coordinator job.
The twice-failed head coach was at his best when he was calling plays for the Patriots offense from 2006-2008 and again from 2012-2021. Of course, a lot as changed since then, as several key members of those Patriots teams have left, most notably Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. However, with a familiar face now back in the building in head coach Mike Vrabel, it should come as no surprise that McDaniels will have a chance to return to Foxborough for a third stint as the team’s offensive coordinator. A chance to be paired with second-year quarterback Drake Maye could be an enticing one for McDaniels, but this offense is still in need of massive overhaul before having a chance to be competitive.

Not sure about the SB or the fact the Pats blew through the process

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports the Giants are allowing executive advisor to the GM Ryan Cowden to take a position with the Patriots front office.
Cowden was reportedly Vrabel’s candidate to be general manager in Tennessee in 2023 before Amy Strunk Adams hired Ran Carthon. Now he resurfaces in New England under his former charge, and the Giants let him out of his contract to make it happen. It makes plenty of sense for Cowden, as the Giants front office isn’t exactly on firm ground right now despite being retained. Is he a real threat to Patriots GM Eliot Wolf, who didn’t exactly build a great roster for Jerod Mayo last year? That remains to be seen, but clearly Cowden is a Vrabel hire.

Mehhh one year it's hard to build a roster in one year. The Krafts Fd this up and the fanbase has no patience that is a bad combo

My opinion is that Vrabel didn't sign this contract without a busload of Gimmes. He's of the Belichick tree and wants final say before bringing in players or staff.

Not sure why people keep saying “Vrable is of the Belichick tree”. He is not. He played but never coached with Belichick.

Is Kevin O’Connell with the Belichick tree?
