A playoff spot is improbable, but not impossible for the B1G.

The B1G needs some help from Tennessee this Saturday with a Volunteer upset over Oklahoma in Norman. Plus of course an Oklahoma conference loss this season too. In other words, the B1G needs to have the eventual Big XII champion to have at least two losses.

More likely that the PAC/SEC would get 2 spots in your scenario.

tOSU does not need to win to still be on top. Those on the bottom don't get that.

Right, don't need to outrun the bear, just outrun the other humans.

.......Also......The B1G needs Notre Dame to have a couple losses so that the Irish don't grab one of the four playoff spots.

Ya never know what may still happen this season...all is not yet lost for the B1G.
I forgot how ND could impact this ... I was thinking that after yesterday, the B1G is in the lead as the conference being left out. If ND runs the table, not likely, then 2 Conf Champs would be excluded. ND throws a wrench into the works, and that just seems wrong. Join a fucking conference, will ya!

Since they play Florida State, if ND goes undefeated that knocks out the ACC as well.

No. If ND ran the table, agreed, unlikely, that means they beat FSU, Stanford and USC along the way to do it. Why would they need to be in a conference. The power 5 er, 4 act like a cartel, that the NC only belongs to them. Here's a thought, win your own games.

I saw a B1G fan on here who pinpointed what the conference must do: Go out and spend the $$$ to hire top coaches and keep them.

Does that make Rich Rod your Ty Willingham?

No he was our Dennis Erickson. You know a coach that had previous success, but just couldn't get it done at a certain school for whatever reason.

Oh, stop acting like you don't get special treatment. It's why your bowl record sucks ... you keep getting to play better bowls than you deserve, which results in more losses.

The Power 5 is a cartel, and with the recent rules, it's official. They got college football where it is, they will take the lions share of what they created. It's not like ND wouldn't be fully welcome in the ACC.

You should be in a conference so that you have to either play all teams in the conference, or play a CCG. There shouldn't be different rules for a single team. Take a team out of the SECW ... say TAMU ... they would have to beat Bama, Auburn, LSU, and Missouri, and then the winner of the SECE. UGa would have to beat Clemson, Auburn, Missouri, with USCe/UT/UF providing plenty of rivaly games, and then the champion of the SECW. Not as tough as the West, but as tough as what you listed. ND should be in a conference and go through all the teams or have a CCG. Just my opinion, I am sure you agree and I respect that.

Ohio State losing to a good VT team isn't surprising, as their best player is on the sidelines for the season. Unranked Michigan losing to ranked Notre Dame, no matter the margin, isn't embarrassing or surprising. MSU losing to Oregon in Eugene, expected.

So why are these games such a big deal to all the non-B1G fans? Why do the B1G close wins like Iowa and Nebraska matter, but nobody else seems to mention equal or more embarrassing ones around the country. UCLA nearly lost to a terrible Memphis team. Mississippi State, a team that people were high on all offseason, was in a dogfight with UAB for a good portion of the game. Kansas State almost lost to a pretty bad Iowa State team that got the hell beat out of them by an FCS team last week. UNC almost lost to SDSU. Etc. Etc.

Seriously, if the B1G is so bad and irrelevant just stop talking about it.

Really? First, is VaTech a good team? We don't know that yet. Seems to be this was a rebuilding year. OSU was at home, ranked in the top 10, sporting a 35 year winning streak at home against OOC, playing an unranked team that has struggled the past few years. But, you weren't surprised ... you got any picks you want to share for this coming week?

Fred has a point besides Meyer and Dantonio name a B1G school that doesn't bitch about their coach. This thing is now and arms race and if you want to know why the PAC is doing so well look at their coaching hires the last 5 years. Even Washington State took a chance on Leach who like him or not was extremely successful at TT.

You have to hire a top coach and recruiter to succeed.

If the coaches can reverse the recruiting problem, then yes, they need coaches. Current recruiting:

1 Alabama
2 Clemson
3 Georgia
4 Texas A&M
5 Penn State
6 Florida State
7 South Carolina
8 Auburn
9 Ohio State
10 LSU
11 Miami (FL)
12 Tennessee
13 Mississippi State
14 USC
15 Notre Dame
16 UCLA
17 Texas
18 Oregon
19 Michigan
20 North Carolina

SEC - 8
ACC - 4
PAC - 3
B1G - 3
Big XII - 1
ND - 1

Of these 20 teams, only 5 are in the north. 75% are southern, warm weather teams. 3 of them are in 15-20. Maybe good coaches will be able to convince the southern players to come to the north. But, if they can't this problem won't cycle any time soon.

Come up with that extremely original insult on your own?

Until the results of the Iowa vs Ball State game actually somehow matter, it's fucking annoying to hear about. Why are non-Nebraska fans so concerned with a close call win in week 2?

"OMG THE PAC12 IS SOOOO BAD UCLA WAS EXPOSED MOVE THEM TO THE MOUNTAIN WEST."

That's what this board fucking sounds like these days, it's tired.

Oh, I don't know, after listening to page after page of how the Huskers were the 2nd Coming, to watch them pull out a miracle win that they had no business getting against a freaking FCS team!...

Maybe that's it.

Step 1. Get good coach
Step 2. Good Coach Gets Players to fit system
Step 3. Win and get Press
Step 4. Recruit Higher Rated Players (due to increased press and winning)
Step 5. Sustain Steps 1 through 4

This is off-topic a bit, but in my opinion, a good coach is one who can devise a system based on the talent on the roster.

You want to see a good coach? Check out some of the DII and DIII programs that don't get to pick and choose their recruits. That's where you will find the best coaches.
