Damn, the things you can learn here. How well vetted is this?

Not sure. It's something I've heard for years, going back to the Jewish Studies undergrad days.

I want to believe.

The thirteenth tribe, mah bruddah.

Edit: actually one of the ten "lost" tribes:

The Celts are Israelites Under Another Name

It always cracks me up when "proof" is offered by mashing together words in one Language (English) because it's similar in sound in a different language; or using the English text from a translation of a document (more accurately, a translation of an earlier translation) and compare words to modern English.

Example :

British Coat-of-Arms

Abraham, Joseph's great-grandad, was told by God that, "in Isaac shall your seed be called" (Genesis 21 v 12) - Isaac's sons - Saac's sons - Saxons. The British-English and the English-Americans are Engel-o'-Saxons or Anglo-Saxons.

Yup, just ram those words in English, and use the English translation of the Greek translation from the Aramaic (or Hebrew), and voila, they are one of the lost tribes!

Also the word British is not English; it is Hebrew.
Brit (Berit) means Covenant in Hebrew and Welsh
Ish means man or people of, in Hebrew and English
Therefore British means The People of The Covenant,
in other words, the People Israel of The Covenant.

Sure, take similar-sounding stuff from two different languages and obviously you can take the sounds and "translate" into what the sounds mean in the other language. Makes perfect sense.

The Celts are Israelites Under Another Name

The word Celt is the Anglicised form of the Greek word Keltoi, which means "the people who are different.*" In Scripture, all nations, except the Twelve Tribes of Israel, are referred to as Gentiles (Foreigners), so the only people who are different are Israel. The word Celt is therefore another word for Israelite.

So the Greeks used a word that sort of translates in English to what something translated out of Aramaic translates to a similar concept ("different" or "stranger", depending on the context), so they must be the same people.

The site is pretty funny, except when you think the guy might actually be serious and it makes you fell just so sad for the poor guy.
