Perhaps, but Sabe's first comment came before Willie tore the ucl - the injury in 2011 was a forearm lig/tendon strain. Sabes expected Wilson to be back, used the "crash and burn" metaphor, and did not kick him to the curb.

Agreed. I can't pretend to know what Sabean knows or feels when he says anything, but I do know that if he would have tried to move Wilson before news got out about how serious his injury could be, he would have been talking to a lot of skeptical GMs. Really, the way that they played it with Teh Beard in the off-season was the only option that they had. Certainly, it is possible to come back from "crash and burn," as much as it is possible to come back from a second TJ surgery (he had to know it was a possibility), but even with all of his cliched metaphors, Sabean doesn't strike me as a guy to say things just to say them. I think he agrees with your assessment much more than you do.

Crash and burn is just another Sabean cliche. I mean, at the end of the day, you can't have an interview with Sabes without him throwing about half a dozen of those out. I'd guess, Sabean was simply talking bluntly about what had already occurred with Huff without meaning to imply Huff was completely done.

That said, Huff is done.

What you did there.....I see it.

:dunce:

I am dense. I don't see it.

:(

You have to browse through your handbook to Sabeanisms again.

random thought: I wish there was a gif of Sabes kicking big monster truck tires

With the help of your teammates, and the good Lord willing, we can see you through this rough patch. In the course of a 162 game season, everyone is going to have their ups and downs. It's how we respond to them that truly define our character.

OK, it was the highlighting of "interview with Sabes" as well that threw me off.

Thanks filo. Throw me under the bus, why don't you...

But we will be kicking the tires on a few veteran players who could raise the level of our team...

Sabean, around Feb 3, talking about why he signed Affeldt in the offseason:

in spring training 2012, talking the things that went wrong in 2011:

Hey, SabeySabes is a work in progress. He's doing his due diligence and he'll kick the tires on all cliches.
