How popular is college ball where you at?

I'm always trying to get tickets to games, but they're always expensive and/or sold out, which I find comical because here in the NYC area, NOBODY I know follows college basketball. I'm literally the only one of my friends who follows college basketball, more or less at all (outside watching the tournament in a bar), yet tickets for the Big East tournament are like $500 a pop and tickets to Seton Hall/Villanova are sold out.

In Philly, I have seen a few Nova fans, but they pale in comparison to numbers of Flyers & Eagles fans and I know quite a few people who went to Nova who don't even follow the team at all. Yet, Nova's games sell out.

So, people go to the games even though I literally know nobody who does.

I turned on the OK/Ok St. game a few days ago and it was packed to rafters. Must be a huge ticket there.

High school and college basketball is big here and for good reason. If you want to watch a pure team sport, this is it!

College basketball is my favorite sport, but i have no idea what the deal is where you are.

In Vegas, UNLV basketball is like our pro team. Its all we have thats worth a shit sports wise, and its barely that.

^^^That's the ticket. Philly and NYC have every pro sport known to man. Vegas has a shit load of other cool things to do, but you can only bang hookers and push the bandit buttons only so much. A bball game is a great diviersion.

Here in Syracuse, we have no pro sports and just a little bit of gambling and hooking. These long assed winters has NNY'ers going to the dome in droves.

Tournament tickets are always pretty expensive, because they include admission to every game in the tournament. Even when it used to be played in Memphis, lowly C-USA tournament tickets started at over $300.

College basketball popularity varies tremendously by geographic region, the basketball tradition of the school, and how good the teams are. I'm not surprised that tickets are hard to get in the NYC area. Here in the wretched South, however, college hoops tickets are pretty readily available at low prices.

That's correct. And multiple teams for football, baseball, and NBA.

And there's no good college football team here, yet that is immensely popular.

I have met many more people who are into soccer than college basketball. Yet, NCAAB tickets sell out. :noidea:

I've been to a couple of concerts in T&M. Haven't seen a ballgame their yet but it seems like a pretty cool venue. Most of my Vegas trips tend to be around WSOP time so I usually don't get to see any sports. I also am told I spent a fair amount of time at the sports book at the Bellagio during the final four a few years ago, but I'll be damned if I remember it. Now that I think of it, I also saw a concert at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Between Michigan and Michigan State, there's some buzz at tournament time, otherwise the interest is pretty much limited to those who attend either school and their alumni.

pretty big....it goes in waves...back in the mid 00's HS ball was HUGE because we had top D1 talent in guys like Chapman, Love, Singler, etc. coming through the ranks.

But really the Trail Blazers end up over shadowing the college ball.

I know what you mean...I have NEVER gotten tickets to the Big East tournament. I imagine that most of those are snapped up by students...or at least, they were, when the BE included teams like UConn, Rutgers, & Syracuse.

Not a whole lot of interest outside march typically, but Iowa State doing well the last few years and Des Moines not having anything else has brought the bandwagoners out the wood work. But even still, nobody really gives a fuck till the superbowl is over and they're about 2 weeks into football withdrawals

There is only the Wildcats in Tucson. Never really met many fans of the Arizona pro teams in general. College basketball reigns supreme, I miss it

I haven't been in Tennessee very long but I would completely agree with this. North Carolina has a ton of athletes and teams loaded with talent but they're so talented they don't know how to play basketball as a team.

Tennessee doesn't have the talent outside of Memphis that North Carolina does but the high school game I've been to in Tennessee was impressive. It was a bigger deal than in North Carolina, it was a real team game, and a lot of fun to watch. Much more community involvement than in NC.

I feel like College basketball is 100x more popular in NC than Tennessee but I haven't been here long enough to know. Football is bigger in TN, that's for sure.

Here in North Carolina we used to have the Carolina Cougars(Greensboro Coliseum) in the ABA. When they folded up and the NBA took the larger market teams the focus really expanded on the ACC teams. When we got the Hornets, they did OK, even made it deep in the playoffs, and I went down and watched Jordan and the Bulls play his final season. Then they moved to New Orleans. Sure, we have the Panthers and the Hornets again. But there's nothing as exciting as being in the midst of a Carolina-Duke game in Cameron. NOTHING. The Dean Dome is OK, like PNC Arena with NC State and the Joel Coliseum with Wake Forest, they all have had their team's moments and I enjoy them all. I really liked Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State as well as Carmichael Auditorium. Those venues were as loud as any. But for me, there's no experience like watching a game in Cameron.
