I root for the Browns too. Not in any sort of my team deal, I just feel badly for their fans. If anyone deserves a winner it's a Browns fan after what they have been through. Anyone with a heart in their chest should root for the Browns.

Wow...the Browns and the Skins. You are just punishing yourself. I don't know how you aren't in therapy. :gaah:

Yeah. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. The Browns will always be my AFC team. And I still don't like the damn Broncos... or anyone else in the AFC north.

Born and raised in big D. Grew up 1 block away from the cotton bowl (the original home of the Cowboys). Every body in my family and the neighborhood was a cowboy. How did I become a Skins fan well I was only 5 yrs old, so you have to look and understand you are dealing with a 5 yr old mentality not a grown up. I had a thing about the color of helmets. The old burgundy helmets with the white feather in the back of the helmet for some reason appealed to me. Just like the one in my avatar. Norm Sneed and Bobby Mitchell. A true odd ball is who I am, always going against the popular option. Hated the white/silver cowboy helmet but, liked the colts and Lions helmets strange huh. Whoever them boys played, always pulled against them. Been a Skins fan since 1962. There always one odd ball in the family and that was me.

Family moved to Fairfax, VA when I was 7 so I picked the Redskins over Ravens. I also took a lot of shit from my father who is a Steeler fan. I have been a Redskin fan for roughly 25yrs now. My first Redskin game was Sean Taylor's tribute game against Buffalo where Gibbs called two timeouts in a row giving Bills kicker extra 15yds for them to kick the winning kick as time expired.

That may have been the low point of being a Redskins fan in my lifetime. When the great Joe Gibbs, our savior, cost us the most emotional game I have ever been a part of.

Honestly, growing up... during my youth and teenage years, I was a Cleveland Browns fan. Not sure why.. Because I have no ties to that area or team. I remember watching Bernie, Ozzie, and Byner get heartbroken by Elway year after year. They seemed to play on TV quite often during those times.I also kept up with the Skins during that time because they were on TV nearly every week too. When Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore in '96 I flipped to the Skins. Haven't looked back since. I too have never experienced a Redskins juggernaut, despite being 40 years old. I still have a soft spot for the Browns though.

Kinda gald you brought this up (Cleveland Browns) My first memories about football were about the pride and shaky allegiances taken by so many who split their rooting interests between the Browns and DC primarily because Cleveland fielded more players that looked like us than any other. My granddad would take me with him to old Griffith stadium in 1959 (I'm 7) just to maneuver through some bushes and peer inside at what had to be the worse view possible. We weren't exactly welcomed there either, but hey, I was with the greatest man that's ever lived, so that's all that mattered to me.

There were plenty of protests surrounding the team then too, some of that went away with the trade with Cleveland for the original B Mitch, changing of the fight song and open admissions. For those of you who only know futility, you're not alone, it was not until the 20th year of my life that Washington made a playoff appearance, their first since 1945!

My first memory of Skins is with LeBaron at starting QB.
I still have trading cards for Brito, Bosseler and Podoley.

well SportsHoopla board members your favorite moderator became a redskins fan because of one Christian Adolf " sonny " Jurgensen . Why him you may ask ? well i was born in Fredericksburg Va in 1962 . my mother used to prop me up in the high chair and we would watch skins football . at about age 4 i noticed the brilliant passer number 9 was a redhead . the same as a young future soldier we all know and hopefully love . my hair was carrot top red like the comedian and i had a true blue american hero

my dad has said for years the sonny could come off his death bed and throw a perfect spiral for a TD . i have personally never seen sonny not throw a perfect spiral ever ( thats my story and i am sticking to it )

so i have been a true burgundy and gold guy ever since often imitating sonny as he would walk up behind len haus place his hand on top of his butt , step back , scan the defense , and then hit taylor smith mitchel in stride . the year was 1967 the zenith when the skins had the 1st 2nd and 4th leading wrs

anyone remember a whole generation of kids walking around like larry brown after he was tackled with that hitch in his step ?

Dad was a D.C. native. I was a military brat. Dad was working at the Pentagon or some other government building. Born at Ft. Belvoir Army Hospital. Lived in Alexandria, Springfield, Oxon Hill, Ft. Meade, and Ft. Washington. We used to get tickets from my dad's friend back when you couldn't get tickets. When I was 5 or 6 he got stationed at the War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Yep! Used to go to camp which was walking distance from my house and collect autographs for two summers. Hooked!

West Potomac grad. It's in my blood. Btw, I started watching the Skins in 82. I mean they went to the Super Bowl the first two years I started watching football. A Die Hard was born.

I wore Larry's number as a high school RB. He walked into a pizza store I worked at that was frequented by several Redskins and I couldn't say a word.
