I used to post this thread annually over on CBS during the off-season. Some of the former CBS posters may remember. Seemed to always make for a pretty interesting topic.
Anyhow, the concept is pretty simple. How did your favorite team become your favorite team? For some, it's as simple as it's their alma mater, some were already fans, then it became their alma mater, family ties, etc.
For me, I was 9 years old and was in my 2nd season of Jr. All-American football. My dad was attending Long Beach St. at the time (they still had a football team back then) and he took me to a couple of games. It was fun, but it just didn't feel like "big time football" to me.
Then one day he told me he got tickets to see USC. Again, I was 9 and just learning about football so I was kind of expecting an experience not much different than Long Beach St. We went to the Coliseum and that alone was impressive to me because that was where the Rams (my favorite NFL team back then) played!!
Well, we're in our seats, the Coliseum is packed, the band starts playing "Fight On", the team runs out on the field and I immediately became a fan for life!!
