just an aside ... is the NFL teflon or what?

MLB had steroids and many fans chastised the sport ... NFL has em ... no problemo!

today, the basic sentiment of the sports media: "Disapproving tone regarding violence in NHL playoffs."

meanwhile in the NFL .... "Much excitement over release of new NFL schedule!"

No one here is upset that he "finished" his check. The problem stems from the fact that he jumped into the hit, targeting Hossa's head. Where do you draw the line, are you allowed to stab out the guy's eye with your dick after he's unconscious on the ice, as long as it's all done in the process of "finishing your check"?

LOL. The announcement and jumbotron graphic in the arena that would go along with that would be hilarious.

Announcer: "Hey 'Yotes faaaaaaaaaaaaaaans..... looks like SOMEBODY just got (crowd chants along) diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccckk staaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbed."

The hockey media on both sides of the border often seem to focus on the negative. It drives me crazy. There were a lot of good things and good stories from last season but it seemed to me that the majority of the coverage focused on head shots and concussions. I am not saying that they are not important topics......

Eloco, this is so wrong. You really need to think these things through before you say them.

The Coyotes would have to have fans first for this to work.

@JSportsnet: So one paper says NHL has "a lack of courage" another calls Crosby "cowardly"...or are we just trying to sell newspapers?

going back to what sabresfan said ... the nfl product is so popular and has so much built in inertia/brand loyalty with fans that it sells itself and anyone in the media taking shots at it, is debased

meanwhile the media covering the NHL is fighting to get off the back pages of the newspapers and to get more page views on websites ... and the way to do that is to stir up controversy and focus focus focus on it

I think the NFL has handled controversy better too.

The Saints scandal breaks, which looks bad for the NFL, and instead of a paltry Shanaban, Goodell really brings the hammer down hard.

And instead of talking about how evil the Saints are and how it looks bad for the NFL, everyone is instead talking about how strong of a response the NFL put forth. They took a potential PR nightmare and turned it into a victory.

this is true ... the NFL seems to be out in front of it more than other leagues but like you said the friendly media is focusing on the schedule release when this happened yesterday:

Charles Robinson, a tremendous investigative reporter for Yahoo Sports, tweeted Monday that a "High ranking legal source w/strong ties 2 NFL owners says concussion litigation has grown into biggest financial threat in league history."

LMAO! Good point. Well, dick stab me with a Tampa Bay dildo, I have a feeling Shack has invented a new SportsHoopla term.

Actually, I take that back, please do not stab me with anything, particularly a dildo. Reminds me of Eastbound and Down... "Whatever they do next....let's also do..." hahahaha. Poor Stevie.

Yeah, but let's be honest, did we expect him to be packing up his gear and saying "Yep, I'm a dirty bastard and I expect to be done for the season."

Nope.

I think I was mostly shocked by the quote about all 4 officials having missed the play. Cannot comprehend how you could miss that play. The puck was in the vicinity, it's right in the middle of the ice, etc. etc.
