Yep, they literally did nothing to improve the offense in the entire offseason .. With this pitching staff being one of the better overall in baseball it’s criminal …M’s ownership is just hoping guys improve on offense … Watch, if we’re in this thing come the trading deadline, they’ll do nothing, BUT I guarantee you Houston will, Texas will… I’ll never get it, you own a sports franchise and you don’t care if they win ? Joke of a franchise … This team has had a window now for several years to potentially make it to a World Series, but this ownership gets in the way…
Sad but true.

Thing is they'll have a run in August to put themselves back near a wild card, just enough to get everyone to believe again, and they'll miss the playoffs by 1 game. Followed by the same off-season they've had the previous 3 years. Rinse/repeat
Not sure if you're saying the M's missed the playoffs by 1 game last season, but they were eliminated last year while 3 games out of the 3rd wild card, and they didn't hold any wild card for the final 5 weeks of the season.

I see people saying it all the time on social media when it's just not true. They missed the postseason by 1 game in 2023. Only time that's happened in recent history.

But yeah, I think it's probably going to be another season where we hold the top spot in the pennant several times and then fail to even make the post season. Just once in my lifetime I'd like to see us not bottom-feed for a 2nd or 3rd WC spot for a couple of consecutive years.

I loved The Pitt. Was a big ER fan back in the day.
The Pitt was fantastic.

I also watched S1 and S2 of Severance over the weekend. Terrific show. But I know some people on here aren't Apple+ fans lol.

The Pitt was awesome. The wife and I called it ER2 or ER Unmasked. I didn't really need to see a gapping vagina giving birth, but, whatever. Still a great show. Hoping for a second season.

Wait. They sent down Evans? Seriously? I hope there is some kind of logic behind that because right with Kirby struggling and not knowing what we will get from Miller when he comes back, it seems kinda premature.
Bill Krueger was asked about it on the radio yesterday and he said that was the right call. He loves Evans command of his off speed stuff, but thinks he needs more work on his fastball. Uses it too little because it's too average. Need more movement and speed on it.

Had a lot more to say on it, but that was the gist.

That makes sense. But I still think Evans might be in the conversation with Hancock and Miller for the 5th spot in the rotation before the end of the month, assuming Gilbert and Miller both come back within the next few weeks and Kirby stays up. And if Kirby stays shitty, who knows what's going to happen. If Kirby goes down, it'll be interesting to see when Evans gets called back up. Evans has 3 more options available for the year, I think.

There's a big push in local and national sports media for Cole Young to get called up pronto.

What you all think?

I had a discussion on twitter today with a Mariner poster or whatever they are called about this. He was worried it could ruin him if he struggled. My point was there is no evidence that any player that flamed out early would have ever been better if they waited to come up. None. It is the unknown.

Then my other point is regarding pressure on him is that:
1- They can always send him back down. No evidence that has hurt a player.
2- He only has to hit better than Solano to be worthy.
3- What better chance to get your feet wet. He won't be asked to carry the team. Just hit low in the order and and if he contributes once or twice a week he will do more than 20% of the roster.

I have never bought into the 'too young' argument. Trout? Griffey? Yount? Hundreds more I am guessing. Every player is different. The key is to know the player and if you see signs of mental regression or pressure, then do the smart thing and send him down. These 19 year olds have played way more baseball in their lives than guys 20, 30, 40 years ago. Not much fazes them.

Seems to me like they should go to a 6-man rotation for a couple times through the rotation and then re-evaluate.
Yes, that would be an idea.

But you forgot...
The clowns in the offices hate success, let alone efficient game plans.

If you are seriously thinking about using either of those kids in a trade you can't bring them up and risk dropping their value. That's really the only downside to bringing either up.

If you aren't going to eat the salary and dump Garver, it's hard to find a spot for Ford. Even if you did shit can Garver (A man can dream can't he?) he needs to play more than once every 5 days and you have DH all in knots with Polo.

Cole is a different matter. They could use a 2nd baseman with a bat right now. I'd even consider sending Wiliamson back down and just throwing Moore at 3rd base. Moore was hitting much better when he was playing every day in one position and while I really like Ben, his added defense doesn't make up for his lack of offense given how batting starved this team is.

So unless they are working on some blockbuster deal with Young as a big piece in it I'd bring him up right freaking now.

it's so weird to think about what this team might look like in a couple months.

i think i was in denial about how good our farm is OR I was wanting to not think about how badly this org could fuck it all up. it's real now.

also, just saw that Zebby Matthews pitching against us tonight has only pitched 7 innings this year, so ERA wasn't the best thing to look at, but i'm sure we can still make him look like Cy Young regardless. I want to see the M's finish this homestand with at least 1 sweep. Gotta see some life.

Ya, Garver must go for Ford to come up. Dumb otherwise.

Not my favorite choice, but I could live with it. It's not because of Williamson but more of Solano must go!!!!!
