A question on top of a question. Do they just find them, or, do they just see "a certain something" in them, and use the Org's pitching coaches to teach and harness their abilities?

It is probably a combo of the 2, with the finding being the important part....

Definitely a combination of the two with a little luck thrown in...

This was Wacha's draft analysis:
Wacha jumped on the prospect map very early into his Aggies career and while he's still the top college arm in Texas, he's not quite as high profile now as people thought he might be after the start of his college career.Wacha reminds some of Jon Garland because of his size. He has a live, quick arm that can produce a fastball up to 94 mph, sitting comfortably in the 92-93 mph range. There might be more there, pointing to a future plus fastball. He can spin a curve, though some think he'd be better off throwing a slider at the next level. He doesn't throw a changeup much, but it could be an average offering. He can throw his pitches for strikes and goes right after hitters.Even if he's not the elite college arm some thought he would be, he still has the chance to be a big, durable big league starter. And those don't grow on trees.

Yeah, that was last year....

calm down, now everyone will have some film on the guy, although he did get drafted in our fantasy league before the season and it was the only pitcher I wanted other than Paco Rodriguez. Players will get to him next year more often and expose stuff, Cincy found that out this year with their prospect..The guy will be great after he returns from TJ in 2015..he might get half to 3/4 of a season in next year.

its been STL secret weapon this year, sneak the rookies in....Rose to closer, Wacha to start, Martinez (who wasn't great in the minors so far), they even tried to sneak Wong in for the post season...pretty cool manuvers, get arms not seen much...its worked some.
