That explains it a bit for NHL prospects, but not in general. Most folks never learn proper pull up form, and what to do with their shoulders. You can cost yourself a lot of power doing any motion by using poor form, after all.

Naw ... theres lots of pear shaped losers in the general populace lol

My bro in law and his family "did the puyallup" (washington state fair) a couple years back and the marines had an exhibit and a pull up challenge contest. He was training for a triathalon at the time and stepped up in skinny jeans and a polo and reeled off 23 which eclipsed the days high by 13 lol. They promptly asked him about serving his country and gave him a tshirt as a prize for cracking 20. He told them he was a canadian software engineer at amazon and they wanted the shirt back lmao

To explain the pull up conundrum, the reason some people can do them and others can't is mostly because the people who can't do them don't know how to. If you don't keep your shoulder blades drawn in (and if the muscles in that part of your back aren't strong enough to keep them there, even if the rest of your muscles are plenty strong), you'll cost yourself all your strength and won't be able to do any, or at least not many.

In other words...
