So there's hope for me yet!

We get to jump into the pull-ups right?

How do we even respond to that?????
You can't. :suds:
But you can tell I have heard way too much of Bob Errey on the Penguin air waves.

Just a primer...

In all seriousness pull ups always seemed to be odd. In school I could always do them and some people in much better shape than I was could not.

Went to the rugged maniac OCR last year. They had a pull up contest. There was a guy who was totally ripped like Ryan Kesler is built and could only do 8. Then a dude that looked like Phil Kessel went in and pulled up 22.

:noidea:

I don't understand the thread title (I mean, aside from being click-bait). A top prospect has a bad combine result and that paints the entire sport as pathetic and embarrassing?

I've got a bit of info that might bring this into focus for you: Cowboy is a talking meatball.

This one time I was watching a football game and a guy dropped a pass that should have been easily caught. I went out in the yard and burned my jersey and swore off ever watching the sport again.

I understand and kind of did the same thing. After he dropped it I went out back and had Mom throw me a similar pass then recorded me catching it. To this day, every morning I post my video to his Facebook and Twitter page to remind him of his error. I'm a big fan.

As someone who is in USHL circles and is quite "anti-" Middlestadt for his decision to leave juniors to play public high school hockey, it makes me smile that this is actually a standalone post by someone who isn't even a hockey fan...

To explain the pull up conundrum, the reason some people can do them and others can't is mostly because the people who can't do them don't know how to. If you don't keep your shoulder blades drawn in (and if the muscles in that part of your back aren't strong enough to keep them there, even if the rest of your muscles are plenty strong), you'll cost yourself all your strength and won't be able to do any, or at least not many.

its weight distribution too though isnt it? I dont think its uncommon for young players to have all their strength and muscle mass in their lower body ( I SAID PARDON ???!!!) with the way skating is emphasized at the youth level in north america so i can see a kid have a hard time pulling up that weight ... upper body "man strength" will come

that being said, you would think someone who is an nhl entry draft prospect would work on that upper body strength sooner rather than later :noidea:

That explains it a bit for NHL prospects, but not in general. Most folks never learn proper pull up form, and what to do with their shoulders. You can cost yourself a lot of power doing any motion by using poor form, after all.
