That's the Toronto factor, higgy and I agree with you...

i dont agree with that I think all the international hockey success puts Sundin over the top imo

Congrats to Burnaby Joe, one of my all time favorite players. His wrister was a killer. I'll always remember the call on his goal in game 7 against the Devils "He fakes it, takes it, SCORES!"

Oh, don't get me wrong, Sundin is a Hall of Famer, but 656 goals and Stanley Cups should put Shanny in before Sundin, in my opinion.

Edit: Shanny had some good international success with Team Canada as well...

they were talking about how much grief Pat Quinn got for supposedly being the one guy that stood in front of Bure not getting in last year and that he had a change of heart :noidea:

also ... what reaction do you think Bure has?

its easy to say he's gonna be over the moon ... but yah ... i could see him being a red-ass and saying to the effect that "I should have been in last year "

Larry Brooks doesnt agree

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Continued snubs of Shero and Burns reflective of petty agendas of the committee members. No credibility whatsoever.

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Brendan Shanahan not a Hall of Famer??? Laughable. And a sad commentary on the voters participating in the secret process.

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Perhaps it's better that the Gang of 18 known as the HHOF Selection Committee is sworn to silence. Embarrassing enough as it is. For shame.

Why does each year's class have to have a certain number? Why can't it be zero one year and 8 the following year?

As out of touch as baseball writers are with the game many of them cover, at least thier system is fairer - if a certain percentage of them thinks a player is worthy, then so be it. Granted in baseball that threshold is rather high, but that's not the point. The point is if seven eligible guys are worthy of induction, why make some wait it out til next year and the year after that. And when the hell is Mick McGeough eligible?

So is international hockey performance trumping NHL performance now?!? And you don't think Sundin being captain of the Maple Leafs factored into his getting into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility? Caman.

I see the tin foil hats are coming out again. While I will definitely agree on a Toronto slant with the media (TSN, CBC), I just don't see a Toronto bias regarding the HOF in the last 40 or so years.

Yes, you could probably make a good case for Shanny over Sundin (or Bure, for that matter) but it's the same every year with a player or two being snubbed. Pat Burns was HUGE in Toronto for a few years, but yet he's not in the HOF either.

Maybe Shanny will have a video for us this afternoon explaining why Sakic, Sundin, Oates, and Bure got inducted...
