Nix had an injury, so who knows how well he will perform at the combine. He could slip.

I would like to see more Fletcher and Collins on the field, HT is to much of a liability, IMO. We also need some pass rush from someone other than CJ. Not sure why Buchannon is not getting more playing time.

Collins is showing progress, and I suspect BB see less in Buchannon than he does Ninko. I have been unimpressed with Ninko this year.

Could not agree more. I thought Buchannon played well. Nink and Carter are not getting it done. Wish we had Abraham now, he looks pretty good in AZ.

I wouldn't consider Hightower a bust.

He can't cover anything on the field. A 1st rd pick should be a 3 down LB who can cover. He is an ILB playing OLB, move him to the middle, or find someone else. I would have rather had Harrison Smith than HT at this point.

I also think we need to target a Center. IMO TE should be the #1 priority a round one pick IF any of the top 3 TEs are on the board, if not get best NT/DT and then best TE. Maybe Center in third.

Hey Mojo - While I agree that getting a tight end is a top priority because of red zone effectiveness issues that have been exposed while Gronk is not on the field, that position can wait until Round 2. I really like Fiedorowicz and he is a perfect solution for the Patriots at that value. His skill set is very similar to Gronkowski and could very effective in our teams' passing attack.

Defensive tackle has to come first in this draft and if Nix is not available when the Pats pick then they will look to Hageman (Minnesota), Sutton (Arizona State), or Ferguson (LSU).

It's also highly probable that someone they have a very high grade on is available who isn't a top need but they think is much better than the alternatives. If a top notch safety, corner, or WR is available, and it's that or a pretty good DT or TE, I mean you have to take the top player, not just pick for needs. It's not like you're guaranteed a first year starter picking around #26 anyway, and how reliable are Talib, Dennard, Gregory, Edelman, Amendola, etc anyway?

All things being equal, they NEED a tight end, they need a DT, etc., but just because you need a player doesn't mean there'll be one worth the pick available.

How much different would this team look if they had been able to acquire Tony Gonzalez at the trade deadline, by the way?

Wide receiver, is by far and unless there is a strong influx of quarterbacks declaring for the draft (i.e. Hundley, is the strongest offensive position in this years' draft. Round 3 prospects are aplenty of which Jarvis Landry (LSU) and Donte Moncrief (Mississippi) are two bonafide studs that are projected for that round.

The problem drafting players with Nix size is if he works out well at the Combine or his Pro day he won't last.

Walterfootball already has him going to Tampa @ 9 so unless he coughs up a furball they'd have to trade up significantly to get him.

Big Board: Want a QB? Then you're in luck with this loaded class - NFL, NFLDRAFT - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Krafty - Nix is not even on the Big Board according to NFL Draft Scout....I think that it is possible for Nix to be there at the end of round 1.

I thought we would be pretty solid at DL next yr. Wilfork, Kelly, Jones, Vellano, Spag, Armsteed, and this new guy who looks pretty solid. Plus don't we have a few guys on the practice squad that are suppose to be pretty decent? I can see drafting for when Vince leaves. I think we need a S and CB because I am not sure Talib is back next yr. Maybe we can get one of these other CB that signed 1yr deals. As for TE, who knows. All the good ones will be gone before we draft. Is there anyone out there as a FA that can come in?

I am 100% cool with this too, but not another DB beit a CB SS or FS, we need to get more pressure on the QB that's what will help the secondary. I am hoping Armestead is well and can fill that need, but having him would not negate a need, but we did pick up two rookie DTs last year and they have gotten tons of expierence this year. I think if you can bring them in fresh next year they can be affective. But Vince is getting long in the tooth so if there is a stud in the first round get him. IMO our draft needs to look like this.

RD 1. DT or TE
RD 2. TE or DT
Rd 3. Center
RD 4. Rush DE

There is nothing to insult about.....

Like I said at the beginning of the year, your defense is getting it together at the right time for the playoffs and I don't expect Miami to beat out the Ravens when it comes to a playoff spot.

no lock for us. if we lose out and Miami wins out......They win the East. Which puts us out of the playoffs....if you guys win out.
