What can you guys tell me about Jacob DeSerres? I see he played for Brandon last season who went to the Memorial Cup final and he also played for Seattle at one point. I'm thinking he must be pretty good to have lead a team to the Memorial Cup final (even if they only made the tournament from being the hosts), but at the same time how good can he be if he cleared waivers in the WHL and is now coming to the QMJHL.

Guy's a pretty good goalie. Big frame and has solid positioning. Is he gonna be the #1 goalie there? I'm just curious because he's pretty much played as a tandem his whole career. While with Seattle in 2008 he split with Riku Helenius and honestly that was the best season of his career. Seattle was pretty good that season, but his numbers were much better than Riku's. His numbers got worse the next year as Seattle got worse, but that wasn't his fault. In the playoffs last year, I thought he played better than Hayes in Brandon. Although neither goalie had great numbers you have to keep in mind that Brandon was kind of a run and gun team that didn't play too much defense. DeSerres was decidedly better in the Memorial Cup, shutting out Moncton and leading Brandon to only it's second win over Calgary in the playoffs in their last 11 games (over the last 2 seasons including the Memorial Cup games). You can't really take much from the Windsor game because, Windsor was Windsor and they completely outclassed Brandon.

Like I said, DeSerres will put himself in position to make the first save and rarely gives up weak goals. He'll give up a bad rebound here and there, but as long as Saint John has a strong defense that can clear out the odd rebound, you guys got yourself a very solid goaltender.

Yeah he will likely be the number 1 guy here but they will still likely go with a bit of a tandem. Maybe not a 50/50 split but 60/40 or 70/30, something like that with the other guy likely playing the weaker teams. Goaltending has been the team's 1 weakness. Until now we've been going with a tandem of 2 guys who would likely be back-ups anywhere else. One of which is 20 so he's obviously the one who will be gone to make room for DeSerres. The other guy is 19 and was acquired in a trade during training camp. He hasn't looked too bad so far but coming in didn't really have #1 goalie credentials.

Our defense is pretty good. Probably one of the better defenses in the Q. I'm pretty excited about this pick-up. He doesn't have to be a superstar but just a decent 20 year old #1 goalie and its an upgrade for us at no cost (in terms of hockey assets).
