Most people in rattlesnake country never see a rattlesnake.
Their habitat is very specific and easy to spot.
Did landscaping in the California foothills where rattlesnakes are plentiful.

Gave me quite the competitive edge in those multi million dollar homes when they found out I could show them where there rattlesnakes were and most importantly, how to get rid of the habitat.

I saw $100 million houses where my best advice was move!

@BK dogs work great to ward off snakes as well. Our dogs have a different sounding bark when they spot one. Our three dogs surrounded a monicle cobra a few months back. Luckily none got bit.

Mongoose work well, but most species are illegal in the US like peacocks.

They brought in mongoose to ward off the habu in Okinawa.
Sadly one is nocturnal, the other is not!

They have them here in Thailand, yet I have never seen one engaged with a snake. I have seen dogs fighting with snakes both venomous and non-venomous. I've seen dogs win and unfortunately have seen them lose.

Most the time if you just ignore a snake they will move along and not bother you. You're not part of their prey. You are bigger than anything they want.

Still good reason why dog is mans best friend. They'll protect you to their death if need be. It's almost impossible to get the dogs away from the snake safely.
