I get it now...he's pissed that he's not going to reach 500HRs.
Probably figures he's a lock for the HOF with 500 (assuming he isn't implicated in a bigger PEDs scandal than the one that has already swirled around him) and wants his sig to be worth that much more after he retires.

500 means a lot to him from what i gather.

It is. David Ortiz needs to look in the mirror, and own up to the fact that he is not producing. That goes for everyone else. If anything, these guys should give the Red Sox a refund. One year Ted Williams had a bad slump. He went to the owner (Tom Yawkey), and said, "I don't deserve $125,000.00. Cut me." Yawkey was a kind and generous man (the richest and highest-paying owner in those days), and assured Williams he understood: slumps happen. But Williams insisted on a pay cut. During the off-season, Williams put himself through a grueling workout. The following season, he almost batted .400 again! (Later on, when he saw how brilliant Carl Yastrzemski was in left field, he regretted not working on his defense like that.)
