From ESPN "Heat look to target Carmelo Anthony":

ESPN said:
The Miami Heat's immediate focus remains overcoming a 2-1 NBA Finals deficit to the San Antonio Spurs, but discussions have begun within the organization about trying to grow their so-called Big Three into a Big Four, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team's leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

ESPN said:
James feels he needs to reduce his workload during the regular season, especially with Wade at a point in his career where knee problems are limiting him to fewer games. Wade missed 28 games during the regular season as part of a maintenance program aimed at keeping him as fresh as possible for the playoffs.

Pairing with Anthony, his close friend and a player who sports a similar skill set, is attractive to James. Anthony and the Heat's three stars have maintained a good relationship since they entered the league together in the 2003 draft class. There is a strong belief that the team concept Miami has forged since 2010 would allow them to learn to be effective all playing together.

So the other three are all going to take less money to stay there? It would be smart if they want to keep winning, but don't see 4 divas all taking less money.

All of them are leaving 50-60 million on the table

Also I don't think it's good for the competitiveness for basketball also it's unlikely to happen IMO.

Read the articles in detail. I dont think this is just smoke. They all can make, especially Lebron and Melo, significant money based on the momentum and endorsements this drives.

Miami and Pat Riley are becoming a franchise that seems to be drawing players.

I give it a 20-30% chance of happening

Melo to the heat if Wade retires or Lebron leaves, I could see that.

20 to 30% seems right. Maybe they kick out Bosh and find a tough big man

There you go! Forget Melo and get rid of Bosh then trade for the last year of Tyson Chandler. Or get Melo and trade for Chandler, not my cap hit money.

Melo on that team, there isn't enough game time to get everyone their stats. Would be epic with Melo in that mix.

if anyone is wondering, I did just punch myself in the balls for using the word "epic" :L

It's basically in Carmelo's hands at this point.
If he opts out of NY, I'm going to go as far as saying that you can near pencil it in.

I also believe that all 4 of them already know exactly what will or won't go down.

For the Big 3 to say they haven't discussed their future already is laughable IMO.
Like they are not going to talk about it all season, and then within about a week all decide and plot their future.

They should all play next season for $100.00 total. That way they could "buy a championship" with everyone else.

They've been trying to win it the cheap way from the start anyways. Why not?
