I know, right?

I remember the Ducks 4th game. Foster Hewitt was on the radio, their opponent was the Montreal Maroons. Georges Vezina had a rare bad game and gave up a couple softies in the first. He claimed afterwards that the lighting was poor in the rink, but we all know he had consumed too many brown pops on the train in from MTL.

If I recall Vezina lost his mind when the go-ahead goal was scored, screaming that it was an illegal forward pass

I think the Maroons' rover got two assists though.

There is no way I believe that stat.

Anaheim 08-09 started 0-3. See standings Oct 14/08. Made it to the second round despite their coach.

I looked through 25 years or so of history just because I was curious (cool site Dragon, only took about 15 mins to do so with it). I would say overall that the majority of 0-3(-0) starts do end in not making the playoffs, especially in more recent year.

And I couldn't find any examples of an 0-3 start team winning the CUP, so I wonder if someone got that stat in their head and misspoke about it.

But the following teams break the rule starting 0-3 and still making the playoffs (year noted is end of season year):
2002 Devils
2000 Flyers started 0-3-1 (finished 1st in conference)
1999 Ducks
1997 Penguins
1996 Canadiens
1994 Caps and Sharks (2 of 3 teams starting 0-3 made the playoffs)
1992 Oilers started 0-3-1 (made conference finals)
1989 Whalers and North Stars (only two teams to start 0-3 and both made the playoffs)

I should note that it isn't like there are a number of teams starting 0-3 either. Typically, 1 or 2 teams start 0-3 in a season and sometimes no teams do.

Sweet, what about 0-6? :D
