I'm hearing that Haz will remain the DC according to 980 since Guenther was promoted to Dc in Cincy. Still haven't seen a written confirmation of this tho. Anyone seen anything?

After the past two plus months of leaks every five minutes, dont expect any word to come out of Ashburn until Bruce Allen deems it to be public knowledge. Its still speculation at this point. Well founded speculation mind you, but speculation all the same.

The front office really doesn't want to announce this because of the back lash that will come with it. I'm on the fence with this one because like Shark mentions, mass turnover is not good for anyone and Haslett knows the players already in place. Having said that, can a new DC do any worse than what he has over the past 4 seasons? I'm not sure but I can't wait to see the up roar when we go 1-3 to start next season and the defense is giving up 30 pts per game.

The same question was asked in Dallas last year after they fired Rob Ryan.

Secondly check out Post Sports live and their take on all things Redskins. Lavar in particular had some interesting takes on Haslett.

Jay Gruden?s staff takes shape

i have seen enough of haslett we were 3-13 last season and the defense was a major issue in it . haslett has had 4 years to get in together and he hasnt

now if we keep haslett i will bash the choice . however having haslett fail hurts the team if he is the DC so i hope it was shanny who stifled the defense . but history says haslett has been weighed and measured and has been found wanting :suds:

My real question on keeping Haslett would be how much power does Gruden have?

It almost seems Zorn like to me for the Skins to keep this coaching staff.

Jay Gruden?s staff takes shape

On one hand he says change and going a different direction on offense (McVay) is not such a bad idea. On the other, he says Haslett may have not had the personnel necessary to have a successful defense. I would agree with the latter however, it was his bone head schemes that left me scratching my head at times and I believe what frustrated fans the most. If he opts to keep most of the personnel from last year, then I will certainly question the motive of keeping Haslett at that point. On the offensive side, McVay doesn't really concern me as Gruden will call plays but whomever the QB coach is does. Griffin needs a lot of work and someone will have to be dedicated to working with him non-stop to "get him right" before the start of next season.

I agree, if it was gruden's decision.

my assumption is that it is until evidence is supplied to the contrary

it seems to me he was able to interview other people and he came to see that haslett was his man

until i see credible evidence of snyder interference (or allen ) and not a presumptive history lesson then gruden will get the blame by me

to me his o/line hire his d/line hire and his DC hire are wanting ? morris is an EEEEH pick

My disagreement with you is the OL and DL guys, especially Forester. Other than Williams, he has had nothing. And I think our DL hasn't played that bad. I agree with you on Haz. There is just no history to dictate that he is anything close to a good DC. But I also understand that we now have a very young staff and maybe keeping Haz around for some sort of continuity makes Gruden feel better about a transition. It does dismay me to see that he is now talking about extending his contract.

I'm also surprised that Dan and Bruce would want to keep him. There must have been something happening behind the scenes with Haz and Shanahan that we were never privy to.

There was a story in the Washington Post about MS over ruling Haslet in game planning, and play calling during games. This I'm sure was reported to Allen who allowed MS to do it his way all the way to the end. A smart Haslet would have made it clear to Allen that he would not be responsible for these actions by the head coach, thus when things fell apart, MS paid the price not Haz.

I actually think that the onus is now on Haz to produce.........hopefully his way. He'll ask for and get players that he needs to succeed.......unfortunately, this might take more than one year to show ripened fruit. In the meantime a middle of the road defense coupled with a more competent offense and STs might get us to 8-8. who knows with luck, 9-7.

Stymietee... welcome to the minority. Because the Majority feels that any one could make our defense better than Haslett and we would be better off bringing in a new DC with a new system. Because according to popular think around here, no one could do worse than Haslett.

By the way I think they made the right move here because after firing the HC, the quickest way to tank our rookie coach is to then do a complete change on defense as well.

Honestly, I'm not sold on Haz, but this is the only rationale that makes sense. Gruden is a first year coach, we have a teenager (at least close) for an OC so I can see wanting to keep some senior guys around for continuity. I'm willing to give Gruden the latitude to pick his own coaches so I'm not going to overly bash this decision. Now, if he gets some of his players and we still can't stop anyone on 3rd down, he has got to go. I wouldn't give him a contract extension, but its not my money.
