They sit 3 games back....

Of the the second place Braves.

Their short stop, who is terrible defensively has demanded a trade since being asked to move to second base(real team player right there)

deGrom has been their only pitcher worth talking about this season since the rest of their pitchers either suck or can't stay healthy.

Could it get any worse for the Mets?

And on a side note, could this be happening to a more deserving team?

Yeah, if not rock bottom then it's got to be close. Got to think Collins is fired soon if they don't turn it around.

Last year over half of their runs came via homer. Not a good situational hitting team, and they were extremely fortunate that the Cardinals and Giants decided to suck in September too, or the Mets wouldn't even have made the Wild Card game they lost(got swept at home by a 93 loss Braves team while in the playoff hunt, and neither team could capitalize). This year, they don't have the pitching to overcome.

The pitching being so bad is what is surprising.

Matt Harvey is an alcoholic, I'm pretty sure. I think a big story next year in spring training will be how he got sober, and is trying to revive his career.

One thing (maybe the only thing) the Mets are good at is finding a way to make things worse than they already are.

Es posible, I suppose, but I still think the Nats win it again.

They probably will, but we've whittled into that lead a bit, and no lead is safe with their bullpen as it stands now, and we've finally started winning series against them.

Things might get interesting if we can get to .500 or better before Freeman gets back, and Freeman can hold his own at third base.

But I'll be happy if we finish close to .500 and be enthused with anything more than that. Gotta keep the expectations reasonable.

If we finish ahead of the Mets, it'll be almost as good as making the playoffs.

The funniest part of this meltdown is that they will return the same starting 5 next season, with the theme being "If they all stay healthy"

LOL

They havent had those 5 in the rotation at the same time
EVER

this may do it for them:suds:

According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets will "at least consider" a reunion with Bartolo Colon.

Colon was designated for assignment on Thursday after pitching to a dismal 8.14 ERA over 13 starts with Atlanta earlier this year. The 44-year-old is a fan favorite in New York and the Mets could certainly use a starter with half of their rotation on the disabled list. However, Colon has little left in the tank and it's unlikely the team would put in a waiver claim for him given his enormous salary. The former Cy Young winner is entering the final lap of his illustrious and highly entertaining career.
