I should have added this in my above post, but I don't think SAP is the best choice for this kind of data analysis (data mining) in the first place. However, as is the case in most business transactions, it's not what you know, but who you know, Hasso Plattner (co-founder of SAP AG) is also the current owner of the San Jose Sharks.

Given also that the HANA technology powering the whole thing is relatively new, I'm sure they got it a lot cheaper than they would have had to pay for something like Oracle.

I think the best is the promise of "sub-zero" search times - does the engine know what I'm thinking of and deliver it to me before I even type anything?

Forget, Superman's reverse-axis flight or Doc Brown's flux capacitor. We just need to run database searches to travel back in time! Who knew?
