Has lightening ever struck a stadium during a game?

I'll soon be 543 and I've never heard of such......ever.

This "Weather Delay" bullshit is annoying as hell.

With the garbage we're putting on the field I'm welcoming it!!! Plus I'm at work so this gives me time to get home and watch it.

I was at a dirt track race in Dalton, GA when I was a teenager and lightening struck the announcers booth. Two were in there. One felt nothing. The other felt a minor shock.

Don't question something you've never tried.

Besides, grits don't mind if you have another bowl of grits.
Neither do women if you find the right one...

Only time I found one of those was while I was young and stupid and loyal to the wrong woman.

I would assume they have a lightning rod or at least one of the flagpoles or some such would serve as one.

True story - about 10 years or more ago when ESPN was doing a broadcast from the Swamp, a lightning strike they commented on for being close actually struck and pretty severely damaged Lee Corso's rental car.

Average of 500 per year are struck in the US. Death rate is around 10%

The numbers however have been declining due people getting warned to take shelter.

I don't mind the delays, if I'm one of the people in it. I can see how its frustrating if you're indoors.

No kidding! He's so old he actually remembers when Georgia won a national title.

Just for you......a pre-Hershel nugget.

I don't remember the year or the opponent, but Willie McClendon got the corner and went down the sideline for a long touchdown run. Larry Munson was announcing on the radio as we all huddled around listening. As McClendon ran away from everyone, Munson got so excited, he blurted out, "Look at that sumbitch run." Live.....on the radio....in the 70s.

You're welcome, swamp lizard. :suds:

The only thing worse than grits or dipping one's balls in grits would be grits after ODD dipped his balls in the grits! Yuck! I am already a "Do not like" grits guy. Now, I have an even worse picture in my head.

According to my brother-in-law who attended Virginia Tech, lightning either struck the stadium, itself, or a car parked just outside the stadium one time when the "Game Day" crew was there - I forget which. Don't know what year, either. But it's better to be safe than sorry, no matter how aggravating it can be.

And at 543, you know those balls are dragging against the ground.

Odds are more likely to die in a car accident, but people don't avoid driving because of it.
