I listened to it and if I remember correctly, they asked him how the Michigan visit went and that's when his dad said what he said.

Then he could have phrased it better and avoided the whole thing by stating that they felt that Michigan was not the right fit and we're not impressed with Mattison.

Instead one poorly chosen quote. Following another poorly chosen statement.

Let's not act like Michigan is pushing out college grads through the business or engineering schools. They are getting forced into general studies or communications degrees just like most other universities do.

Maybe you should check their med and law schools, no? :noidea:

The pertinent part of the interview starts about at 7 minutes in the podcast I posted earlier. They MAYBE talked about the academics comment for a minute. It's blown up way bigger than that, and unless you actually listen to the interview, you're probably going to get some wrong information because a lot of the articles are misquoting or embellishing upon what was actually said.

I agree with 100% of this post: two wrongs don't make a right. :suds:

This is what I thought from the get-go...........best of luck to the kid and happy to have the Cornhuskers in the B1G. :suds:

I'm not sure this has to do with arrogance at all. His statement would be true at MSU. Most of your roster would not be accepted to the school without football in the mix.

Really MSU is the same school that offered a kid arrested numerous times for assault to play QB for them...oh yea you pulled it after his third arrest.

Wasn't Michigan the only team in the Big10 with a convicted felon on their team last year? And then there was your rapist kicker the year before and the thug who threatened to r*pe the kickers victim. Glass houses. At least he didn't make it to campus. Should have been pulled after first offense.

What does that have to do with getting admitted? Does Michigan check every person who applies for arrest? I don't remember any record check when I applied for either degree.

After Mattison made the comment, the UM Visitors were escorted out. I'm assuming this was an in-home visit.

Neal's Dad was pushing Michigan on to his son because of academics and how the Michigan degree would be more than the Nebraska degree.

Dashion Neal says he has a core 3.4 GPA.

Now, why is Michigan going after Nebraska commits? Jones, Neal, and Snyder.

Decent to good recruits who have uncertainty with a new head coach. It's the lowest hanging fruit. Not going to turn a Meyer recruit easily.

Right, so he wouldn't have been admitted to UM. UM generally requires a minimum of a 3.6 and unless you're applying with some great extra curricular activities -- you're not getting admitted with a 3.6. If you look at the data, it proves just that:
http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=379

Only 18% of applicants with a 3.5-3.74 get admitted. Only 3% of applicants with a 3.25-3.49 get admitted. It's very unlikely at that range.

Michigan is going after Nebraska recruits because Nebraska is a solid football program that just lost it's head coach suddenly -- easy picking. This is not the year for Harbaugh to challenge Urban, especially with only 4 weeks.

Also, obligatory - he wants to go to college to play football. He doesn't want to go to play school.

If Taylor "meat head" Lewan can graduate from Michigan, this kid could have avoided playing school in Ann Arbor, too.

And Michigan is notoriously tougher for out of state applicants. I didn't apply there (OOS tuition is insane, even compared to Wisconsin) when I was out of school, but I wouldn't have felt like a lock with a 5.3 GPA out of 5 and a 34 ACT. I had a friend who was waitlisted (and eventually got in and went there) with a 32 ACT and a >5 GPA. I think he may have applied to a more selective program (some sort of engineering...do you apply in high school?), but the point remains.

Even with the AA admissions bump, he probably wouldn't get in. It may not have been wise to say, but it is almost certainly true. And frankly, I like the honesty.

The article that I read the kid basically said how good an education from Michigan would be then leaves it on the table because the recruiter told him he would normally not qualify for Michigan academically. That would be a reason to take the offer. Mattison has been at this a long time and I doubt that he used the words that the kid used.

Anyone can graduate, it's getting there first.

He said something to offend the kid and the dad. That we know for sure.
