How about Vernon Gholston? Think we could coach him up to be a pass rusher and nothing more?

Only if he's back on the vitamin S.

I wouldn't mind signing Goldson, but even in a 3-4 I think he's a better DE than OLB (and only in certain situations). I know the memory of him beating Jake Long like a drum in college still looms, but I wouldn't trust him at OLB for a second.

The Niners have enough old players (player) on the roster who didn't play last season.

sucks for Haralson... But i hope this at least brings back Cam to the active 53 and hopefully jumpstart his player growth.

If not, Haggans could do it for us.

That opens the door for someone like Merriman, although I would be incredibly surprised if this happened. I would definitely like to see them make a FA move and leave Johnson on the PS for now.

I don't know anywhere near enough about schemes, but I'm betting that changes assignments too much for the defense to have the same effectiveness and consistency. At this point, we got to dance with the girl we brought.

No. Why on Earth would a top 5 defense change philosophies completed due to an injury to a back up? They could just as easily sign a veteran backup.

no he hasn't he was lsited as DE so i forgot about him, but he may be an option if he can hold down the olb spot as a specialist

I'd love to have Carter as a situational pass rusher. I don't know why nobody's signed him yet.

He'd ave to rush from the LDE spot though. McDonald would play NT and JSmith RDE. Carter is useless as an OLB.
