Oversigning is 90% myth. There is no school that does what you are talking about.

How many returning scholly players on the roster for Bama before NSD this year?:noidea:

I'll throw out an educated guess and say 72.

And how many did Bama sign on Wednesday?

Did ESPN tell you that. There's a huge difference between a commit and an actual signee. This is Saban's 9th class at Alabama. The yearly average is 24.
Recinding an offer from a commit is one of the worst offenses that can be classified under the umbrella of oversigning.

That said, by your math, Saban has signed 120 kids to scholarships over the last five years (give or take, since you cited an average.) The maximum number he can have on scholarship is 85. That means that a third of his signees (roughly) can not complete five years on scholarship at Alabama. That is worse than the 67.3% graduation rate (in six years) that is reported for the student population at large at the University of Alabama (according to the Chronicle of Higher Education 2012 report that is available online.)

Any school that has an athletic program with a higher attrition rate than that of the general student population should be appalled. But any athletic program that BANKS on an attrition rate that is higher then the general student population is downright disgusting.

I really wish that I could say that Nick Saban is the only one of is guilty of this garbage, but I can't. However, he is certainly the best at exploiting his scholarship athletes through this practice.

The practice of Greyshirting needs to end. That shit Louisville/Petrino pulled was pathetic.
Agreed. Grayshirting is one of the worst practices being employed by the people who engage in oversigning.

Alabama ranked #7 in college football with a 75% GSR.

Try again.

Schools don't release that information, but peoples best guess is 66, not 72. Which puts Alabama currently at 90, leaving 5 spots to free up between now and August.

3-5 spots are expected to be lost by teams over the summer with normal attrition.

Did Brian Kelly really put that kid on that tower in 60 MPH winds?

No it's not. It's the kids choice to greyshirt and you are just pissed off because a kid would rather greyshirt at Alabama than go to Notre Dame.

I know EXACTLY where my team is at. 88. The 85+3 that is allowed for the first time since joining the Big 10.

We'll lose 5 to 7 due to attrition and guys not liking the coaching change.

72. Check your numbers again.

I don't have to check my numbers again, there are people who keep track of these things and that is where we are - 90. 90-24 = 66.

Nebraska math says 90-24 = 72?

That sucks, one of my sons lives in Nebraska and is just about to graduate.

GSR is not an indicator of attrition. It allows a school to count students who transfer and ear degrees elsewhere, or leave the program "in good standing."

So a kid who is doing well in class gets booted off the team to make room for a new signee, can still count positively toward GSR.

The bottom line remains . . 5 x 24 > 85. And that is the problem.

At least your son is getting educated.

Why do you always start with 90 and then subtract Einstein?

It's not a problem.

2015 - 24
2014 - 24
2013 - 24
2012 - 18
2011 - 28

Totals up to 118, 23.6 per year average.

That seems bad to you?

Because 90 scholarships is the count people have using this class recruiting class. So if you subtract the 24 of this class you get 66.

Who are these "people"?

I see 72. 72 + 24 = 96. 96 - 85 = 11.

11 kids that need to leave the program come August.

No worries 4D20. It happens every year. It is within the rules. And it will happen. Why get so worked up about it?

Hell, I wish my team could kick 4*s to the curb like it is nobodies business.

I'll believe the math of the people who keep spreadsheets and actively keep track of these things over you since Alabama doesn't release scholarship numbers.

And I have to wonder if people think having a discussion/debate on an internet forum and disagreeing means that person is mad - are you the ones actually upset?

Does this mean every time you disagree with someone you are worked up?
