Tennessee - 10 enrolled, and 17 LOIs. For perspective, one must consider graduation and other attrition, and the total number of student athletes with scholarships relative to the cap. With regards to annual limits (e.g. SEC's 25), consider in which class room exists and to which class a student athlete is assigned.

The practice of Greyshirting needs to end. That shit Louisville/Petrino pulled was pathetic.

Don't know what Petrino did, but if a player thinks it's worth waiting to play for a team I have no problem with it.

With a choice of sitting for a year or going to a Juco or sitting a year to go to another D1 team, not much choice.

You don't have to sit out if you grey shirt.

Alabama has grey shirted a few players, but then some players decide to go to a different school right away. As any kid getting offers from Alabama is going to have other choices.

If a player has an offer from Bama and Auburn and accepts at Bama. If they is then told he has to grey shirt or he is allowed to transfer. How many schools will save the roster sport for him after the start of practice or even after signing day? I think the 4 year scholar ships can help fix this.

Kid was committed for 8 months and 48 hours before signing day, offer was pulled.

Not really! The coaching staff knew that Reeves, Tanner, and Bogard wouldn't play again due to career ending injuries. Reeves has had multiple torn ACLs, I think Tanner is still suffering from multiple concussions. It's unfortunate for these kids. Hence the reason Urb signed 27!

Edit: Bogard is a 5th year sr I believe.. Not a big deal.:noidea:

Ok but you're not supposed to over sign because some kid who was signed years before cant play or is leaving for the NFL. Am I wrong? You have an overall limit and you have limits on how many you can sign a year. if you have a bunch declare for the draft you cant just add that on top of your limit.

It's happened and the kid went to another school.

I'm not sure how 4 year scholarships addresses the issue of the kid not getting a scholarship at all. Early signing period that is being put out for a vote this year would however.

Yes you can. You have a number of available slots which is 85. If you have a bunch leave for the NFL early, transfers or injury you fill those now open slots.

Early signing period will put an end to these kinds of things.

Yes they can and do add that on top of the limit.

It's one thing to not need the scholarship and be willing to play at a major university. It's another for Alabama to offer the kid accept, close his recruitment then get told before signing day you don't get a scholarship until after the first semester. The kid started making plans and stopped marketing himself....

And I am just using Alabama as an example.

How?

If there was an early signing period, the kid wouldn't have gotten an LOI to sign. I'd just about guarantee it.

The only thing an early signing period will guarantee is power recruiting schools to get big ticket players in the bag and give them the ability to work on the back half of their class and an early start on next year's class in earnest.

As a Nebraska fan, I'm completely against it. But hey, I'm for the betterment of my program.

We only signed 24, the SEC limit is 25. Cant oversign if you stay under the conference limits.

Check out the classes at Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn
Yes you can. Staying under the limit doesn't mean someone didn't oversign. If you have one player graduating and you sign 25 kids then you oversigned by 24.

Oversigning is what it is.

If the schools and conferences that don't oversign (supposedly a majority) want to make a change, then they are more than welcome to make the change by putting forth rules changes to the NCAA and putting them up for a vote.

The Big 10 has a self-suffocating +3 rule of only 88 total schollies on NSD and 28 total in any class.

The SEC passed a 25 per class limit, but allows for back-counting early enrollees which has proven to be a huge loophole.

Either way, schools, fans, conferences need to quit bitching about it unless they are willing to do something about it. If the Big 10 and other conferences/teams are serious, then put it forth for a vote and quit snickering about it every damn NSD.

And if he hadn't got one to sign in the early signing period while being willing to sign then that tells him to start looking elsewhere.

Maybe.

But I doubt it.

Just another story to weave, and another tale to tell for a guy like Petrino. 50 year old+ men making millions of dollars talking to 17 and 18 year old kids.

Early signing period won't do shit. Gotta cut down on teams that oversign religiously by 8 - 14 players a year.

You know any of those schools?

Oversigning is 90% myth. There is no school that does what you are talking about.
