Happy Memorial Day to all and please have a safe holiday weekend. Also like DW said take a minute to think about those who have served our country. That's what today is all about.

Here is a good story for Memorial Day

Stubby took to soldiering quite well, joining the men in the trenches. He was gassed once, and wounded in the leg with shrapnel by retreating Germans, and once he disappeared for a while, only to resurface with the French forces who returned him to his unit. Stubby even captured a German soldier, Ms. Golden said.
As the story goes, the soldier called to Stubby, but he put his ears back and began to bark. As the German ran, Stubby bit him on the legs, causing the soldier to trip and fall. He continued to attack the man until the U.S. soldiers arrived. For capturing an enemy spy, Stubby was put in for a promotion to the rank of sergeant by the commander of the 102nd Infantry. He became the first dog to be given rank in the U.S. armed forces.

Here is a poem that I wrote yesterday

Memorial Day

She seems like an ordinary woman,
A sister, a daughter, a mother, and wife,
She holds the ordinary job like the others,
But at any time it could change in her life,

A thunderstorm has traveled into town,
And the rain wants to cover the land,
She is one of the first to arrive at the site,
Spending the day piling up bags of sand,

When our freedoms are being threatened,
And danger could be coming this way,
She straps on her boots and wears the flag,
Is prepared to defend this land any day,

The time comes for her to serve this land,
How she will return she does not know,
She knows it could be on feet or in a box,
But right now she knows she has to go,

Missing her family is what pushes her forward,
In a land where many soldiers do not survive,
She has turned her life making many sacrifices,
Just so the rest of us can live better lives,

She does not walk away from the heat of battle,
And is carried off the plane in a wooden box,
The family she left behind could not be more proud,
When most people talks on what to do – she walks,

I would like to thank all the men and women,
Whoever served in the United States military,
For all of the sacrifices that you have made,
Has made it possible for this nation to be free.
